(61,695 posts)Why do some famous people think they should start at the top instead of learning more about public service from the bottom-up?
I'm tired of amateurs thinking they can do these jobs.
Though, I think, she has run for office (though could be wrong). She is a strong advocate for breast cancer and LGBTQ issues. I will say this, she couldn't be a worse governor then Cuomo...IMHO

(33,327 posts)Trump HAD experience as a chief executive.
Bush the Lesser was a Governor.
Obama did not. He had experience as a politician: State Senator, US Senator.

(14,249 posts)no shareholders, no accountability. That's not an executive. And he had no government experience either. So he had absolutely no experience that would help him serve as the chief executive of the federal government. None.
I didn't say someone needs to have been a chief executive to be an effective government chief executive. But they DO need to have relevant experience beyond being famous for making themselves rich. Obama had never been a chief executive, but he did have significant experience in government. And while I didn't agree with much of what Bush did, his previous experience as a governor certainly gave him the chops he needed to govern as an effective executive.
I don't want to see an actor who has never run anything, never worked in government, never represented any constituency, but who can get her name out there solely because she's a celebrity with name and face recognition, to become governor of a state, especially a state as critical as New York.

(33,327 posts)I'll never have that problem in WA State. No celebrities want to live here.

I saw him in the role of Don Quixote (a non-dancing role) at the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle.
He got a standing O.

(8,380 posts)I know Republicans in NY who can't stand him, but why don't Democrats like him?
I'm from NY but haven't lived there since 2008.
Thanks~!

(6,143 posts)He came in and started cutting taxed and services and union benefits. He even tried to cut taxes on millionaires but the Dems stopped him. He was AG during the financial crisis in 08 and never launched a single investigation of Wall Street. Why? Because they own him.

(4,492 posts)And I like Cuomo. He might not be the most progressive, but he definitely has the ability to get shit done.
HIs progressive accomplishments include marriage equality (before the Supreme Court), raising the minimum wage, and free college (needs some tweaking, but a step in the right direction).

(6,324 posts)She chose a race she has no chance to win and no qualifications to run for.
In doing so she chose not to run for any of dozens of lower level offices she may have a chance of actually running for an being elected.
So one can only assume she chose the platform with the biggest reach and attention given to if she could file for, against an established incumbent of her own party, because she knows she cant win and she just wants the attention the race will bring.
In other words, another form of theater for her. Attention on her for what she says and does, but its all an act because she knows she cant win and has no intent to so as soon as she walks away its just another gig done on her resume. With none of the possibility of winning and actually having to do the work of governance that exists if she filed and ran in a race she would have a snowballs chance in hell of winning.
