Local Chatter Is So Discouraging It's Hard To Hope. Hear Is What I Heard Today.

Trump liked because he is running out all the Mexicans and eliminating all the takers, slackers, minorities et al off the government tit that is costing tax payer money. Retirees, public employees are getting pensions they do not deserve. Plus public employee don't do any work and are lazy and inefficient. Union workers don't deserve the excessive pay they get because all they do is stand around. We don't need unions.

The loss of jobs, outsourcing and low pay were started by Carter and the Democrats have screwed the middle class. Now almost everyone is on welfare and do not want to work. And the younger generation is lazy and expects to be given everything. Plus Democrats just give away all this free stuff.

You have to work to justify what you get. If you can't work you should not expect much. Beside the rich should not have to pay for these programs.

And it goes on an on. Just about every Fox and conservative talking point you can think of.

I am somewhat paraphrasing what I heard. These are the kinds of themes and memes that seem so common.

ADDENDUM -- What I have been trying to point out is how deeply these ignorant memes and themes are embedded into the public psyche. As I have said down post arguing seems to have no effect in changing minds.

They think 99% of their taxes go towards paying for "free stuff" for lazy slackers and minorities. They are totally obsessed with money and paying too much in taxes. They all believe in "I got mine, the heck with you." Even when they profess to be Christians.

or sometimes you have relatives who say it
or sometimes you overhear a conversation in a doctor's office waiting room or store

I have been in those situations. It's not like the poster is seeking out this garbage. IMO, poster is just lamenting the fact that so many rubes still believe this shit.

address their misconceptions if you dont' even know what they are? Did you manage to respond to this thread about "such despicable trash" without reading said despicable trash? Why are you reading it? If you did, tell me how your bubble is working out for you.

where did you hear that?

can you give me a specific example?

they can't. if they have an example, it will be a lie or a distortion. life is complicated, and they think it's binary.

old white people are up to their eyeballs in resentment.

Either they won't have an answer, or they'll say "Well, everybody knows such-and-such is true!"

Yeah, everybody THEY know.

you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.

you can't tell a trumpist or conservative what you think or what the facts are; they don't listen. they dig in. they're too invested in believing they didn't get conned and that WE are the ones attacking them, trying to destroy Merica, take their guns, etc.

you have to let them figure it out for themselves. it's exhausting and it takes forever.

after all, it took forever (30 years) to brainwash them to this point.

And I have been hearing these same things over time. My hope is that there are people with some common sense. There are times I hear people talking a restaurants and it is pretty much the same memes. I do not get the level of ignorance. The problem is that RW hate talk and Fox News is so pervasive.
