A mysterious bag with 27 pairs of severed, frozen human hands washed up on a snow-covered island near the border between China and Russia, according to local reports.
Investigators arrived at the Beshenaya channel on the Amur River in Khabarovsk, in southeastern Russia, after one of the human hands was spotted. A bag of 53 other hands was later discovered.
Fingerprints have been identified on one of the hands, while the others are being tested. The spot where the hands were discovered is a popular fishing hole roughly 19 miles from the border with China.

(2,857 posts)I read many of them donate their bodies to science rather than have a burials. There was an exhibit in Atlanta called "Bodies" I believe and it was just Chinese people that were disected and preserved. It showed all the individual blood vessels and arteries with muscles showing all the different insertions and such. My daughter had to go to it for school and brought back the literature.

(2,857 posts)It's very expensive to be buried there if I remember right.
She loved the exhibit btw. The skill that the Chinese have with body preservation is amazing. One image was JUST the circulatory system. Amazing.
They do have individual arms and such, but I kinda doubt these are Chinese hands.
Blindingly apparent
(180 posts)I went with my daughter who also had to see it for class. But it was my understanding (and I could be wrong) that many of the bodies had been prisoners at the time of their deaths

(2,857 posts)Where do the full body specimens come from?
The full body specimens are persons who lived in China and died from natural causes. After the bodies were unclaimed at death, pursuant to Chinese law, they were ultimately delivered to a medical school for education and research. Where known, information about the identities, medical histories and causes of death is kept strictly confidential.
Why use specimens from China?
To obtain specimens for our exhibitions, we work with Chinese medical facilities because top dissectors and anatomy specialists live and work in China. It requires a great deal of knowledge, skill, and patience to prepare a specimen.
