When was the last time America could legitimately claim to be a democratic republic?

We have corporations legalized as being human by a bought and paid for Supreme Court.

We have a second amendment butchered by NRA influence in our congress and Supreme Court.

We have banking regulations written by the people whom they are going to regulate. Their lobbyists sit in OUR congressional and senatorial offices and direct what rules our nation will be governed under.

We have massively large corporations getting massive tax breaks while hungry children go to schools that the ASPCA wouldn’t allow an animal to be in.

These same corporations demand special tax treatment and then having achieved that goal they demand that police they didn’t pay for protect them, firemen they refuse to pay have to risk their lives to save these moochers from themselves, and soldiers they not only feel they should get for free, they wouldn’t ever be one either, have to die on foreign soil defending these corporate monsters.

We have a president who thinks he can shoot people in Times Square, grab women by the pussy, pay off prostitutes, and sell us down the river to Russian oligarchs without so much as a how do you do.

We have a congress and senate that wallows in ill gotten cash while cheering on the aforementioned president. And we have a right wing neo nazi clergy applauding the whole mess.

So when was the last time the Oath of Allegiance, the national Anthem and our flag ever exemplified the republic we live in, the democracy we claim is our birth right? Or has it always been a smoke and mirrors parlor trick?
