(32,791 posts)However, Bentleyville is a small hick town way off the beaten path. I'm guessing more people have seen this billboard here on your post on DU than those driving by it in Bentleyville.
It could also be posted in other areas, which would give it greater visibility.

(21 posts)i grew up in a dying steel town. The mills were moved south before China was a problem. The reason was corporate greed. I've even kissed a girl from Bentelyville it was nice, but just because we aren't from a big city doesn't mean we're stupid. Saccone is a sell out, plain and simple. I don't fault him for it but he doesn't deserve a vote from anyone, like me or you, whose grandfather spent 30+ years in a mill as a janitor.

(16,296 posts)Father was a Corning Glassworker, mother worked in a parish house in California (Little California - as we called it). I was raised among the smog of Monessen blowing across from the Monongahela and left the valley to seek my career elsewhere, but - as the saying goes - You can take the boy out of the valley, but never the valley out of the boy.
I know California, didn't know it was called "Little California", must have been the lack of surf boards. Monessen was a traditional enemy for the Dragons of Donora. You're right about the valley.

(15,290 posts)I forget the exact year now, but at the last minute the state legislators voted themselves a big pay raise. It was kind of known as the "midnight raise". People were furious about it because it was on top of per diem, mileage and even state-reimbursed rental cars on top of a pretty generous salary and benefits given to legislators who are elected to a part-time legislature.
In fact people are still mad about it - one thing about Pennsylvanians is that we mostly born/live/die in the state and have long memories. That's the hot button this billboard is pushing. The "expenses" are the per diem and travel reimbursements (mileage and/or car).
