17 people die in a high school and a month later there's a nationwide protest to get the attention of lawmakers.
One dog dies on an airplane and there's a bill in the Senate rectifying it within 48 hours.

I am not opposed to the bill protecting animals, but I am totally disgusted by the idea that the safety and wellbeing of schoolchildren don't get the same swift and humane consideration.

This speaks volumes about who owns the said legislators.

(10,828 posts)Though I commend Kennedy's concern for our furry friends, one would think that Our Children would get, at a minimum, equal concern and attention. Instead, The Children are out on the streets just to be heard in a March for Their Lives.
We are truly living in upside-down times.

(102,236 posts)the political hypocrisy.
This issue too needs to be addressed.
I've been a dog owner/lover all my life. What's been going on with the airlines is totally unacceptable. Just a week ago it was a hamster flushed down an airline toilet. Hideous. But it's impossible not to draw the parallel between one (the kids) and the other (the puppies).
We seem to have lost our compass as a society. The upside-down times are upon us.

(17,984 posts)Their compass! Have you heard Kennedy on cable news? They have been dragging him out lately.
Most Republicans are either running away or hiding from the cameras.
My favorite video is the Democratic Congress marching down those steps to join the young people, who were excited to see them!

(3,479 posts)Republicans will take their nra dollars right to the unemployment line for the next generation. I love these kids, from tide pods to changing the world, who would have known?
True Blue American
(17,984 posts)If anyone else can, please post. The cable news did not see fit to show it over and over.
Of course I was gone most of the afternoon, could have missed it. Will check again.

(1,474 posts)The list is impressive. Tax cuts for the rich. Fuck up anything Obama accomplished. Did he send thoughts and prayers to the dog?
I abhor animal cruelty, but children are being hunted while gop has their hands drenched in NRA blood money.

(58,724 posts)But the argument that people proposed bills after this incident with the dog but not after the school shooting is false.

(10,870 posts)Yes, a persons life is worth more than an animals.
But, our society should want to and be able to protect both.
One difference is that our pets can not speak for themselves.
Those students could at least run and hide.
The French Bulldog could not and was sentenced to a suffocation death by a flight attendant.
Arkansas Granny
(31,515 posts)they are school children, church goers, concert attendees or whatever, was considered with as much urgency by those who have the power to do something about it.
BTW, it's hard to run from a bullet.
Funtatlaguy
(10,870 posts)But conservative legislators would much rather take on a flight attendant or an airline than the NRA.
