Senate GOP: We will grow our majority in midterms

Senate Republicans say they are confident about expanding their majority even while their party faces strong political headwinds amid growing sentiment that GOP control of the House is in serious jeopardy.

Sen. Cory Gardner (Colo.), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), gave colleagues a pep talk during a private meeting Tuesday, pointing out poll numbers showing Republicans beating five vulnerable Democratic incumbents.

“He said if the election were held tomorrow, we’d pick up five seats,” said a Republican senator who heard Gardner’s comments and said the “upbeat” outlook was based on public polling.

-----------------------------------

The lawmaker who requested anonymity said Gardner’s comments reflect a prevailing view within the Senate Republican Conference that any possible Democratic wave is likely to be felt more in the House than the Senate.

1. If Russians can hack it, optimal chaos may be created by GOP Senate and Dem House?

We’d become utterly paralyzed.

It’s better than a fully GOP majority but from Putin’s point of view maybe he’d be fine with having congress tied in knots, an impeached president that doesn’t get removed and won’t resign.

or more in the Senate. The senate map for Democrats is the worst in the history of Senatorial elections. It's horrible.

I have them with a one seat gain and that is no sure bet. If they think they can get 5 they’re more delusional than I thought

If the Russians/GOP are not confident in rigging, a gambit to shuffle the deck, or worse, major war to silence all opposition.

Put nothing past them.

actually the 2018 senate election map is awful for Democrats so i would be pleasantly surprised if the GOP didn't hold their majority even with a strong Democratic turnout. however 4/5 of the supposed GOP pick-ups are based on running against a "generic Republican"; once those generics become actuals, i suspect the polling will shift significantly. i think Sen. McCaskill can pull off a win, too.

of course, if the Russian Troll Dolls step up their game the GOP can extend their congressional majorities in both houses.

And they are deathly afraid that their potential voters are already discouraged by the party's failings.
