This Army veteran's Twitter thread about guns went viral for good reason.

The discussion around gun reform has been particularly fervent this weekend as hundreds of thousands joined in the March for Our Lives rally on Saturday. While there are tons of varying points for disagreement, one of the main arguments made against fire gun laws invokes notions of self-defense.

This premise propagates the idea that Americans need largely unregulated gun access in order to empower themselves with self-protection.

In response to that argument, the Army veteran and Twitter user Westside Fireman posted his personal experience with guns.

"I carried an M-4 in the Afghanistan desert for almost a year. If you feel you need this or another weapon of war like it to protect your home; you need to re-evaluate the way you’re living your life & make fewer enemies. These have no place in civilian hands. #VetsForGunReform," he wrote.

The gun nuts forget that their guns are worthless without their women and children to hide behind. If there were ever actually any kind of total outlaw and confiscation, the wouldn't do much else after they got themselves into trouble.

I suspect the most that will come of this is maybe bringing back about the same assault weapons ban we had before. They can keep their AR-15's. We just won't be able to buy any more. I'd just like to at least prevent some wackjob from being able to go out and arm up with an assault weapon and a bunch of extra clips and ammo to go on a shooting spree with.

...... "we need our guns to protect us from our government" I just look and ask how well they think those will work when the 1st Armored Division or the 82nd Airborne comes rolling over the hills. That usually shuts them up pretty fast. The yahoo's saying tripe like that are usually the big fat good ole boys who like playing armyman in the woods. As a veteran I LIKE screwing with them! (what can I say..... its the truth )

Veterans and a majority of active duty military know that no civilian needs that kind of firepower for ANY reason. Hunting? Well' so much for that moose roast - it wound up merging with the nearest spruce tree, and if you wanted mooseburger, have fun picking out the bone chips. And that ptarmigan is as GONE as if Scotty had beamed it up.

As far as self-protection goes, he who has the smallest dick wants the biggest gun... I bet the orange-haired fuckwit in the White House has RPG's or a Howitzer!
