Is this really where we're at? Just two days after a Playboy model appeared on TV to

detail HER adulterous affair with the man many consider to be POTUS, a porn actress is interviewed on 60 Minutes about HER "sexual encounter" withthe same adulterer just a few months after his 3rd wife gave birth to their son. And the attitude of some seems to be "What? No XXX video? What a bore!"

Is there no sense that this is contributing to the "normalization" of this ass? Is there no dim recollection of what constitutes "moral outrage"?

Just what we heard about tonight would have gotten any prior POTUS impeached, but now, the reaction of some is "So?"

In fact, I don't think any other GOPer POTUS could have withstood this kind of exposure of personal slime. Nor will one in the future.

Trump is a sleazeball and his supporters love it. And I don't think it's 'downplaying' it to say none of these scandals will have the slightest impact on Trump's presidency. Because they won't. His supporters will just point to his behavior as evidence he's the 'outsider,' 'swamp-drainer,' and 'not a politician' they cheered for.

10. Should adultery disqualify any person from political office?
Sun Mar 25, 2018, 09:01 PM
Mar 2018

Everyone hates Trump but is this the new normal?

Just about everyone here would agree that Clinton should not have been impeached for adulterous sex that happened before and while he was in office and actually happened in the White House with an employee. The standard line is "It was just sex". And people at the time also rationalized that lying about sex under oath did not equal perjury.

I think some collateral fallout from all this is that it may disqualify Gavin Newsom from seeking the Presidency one day, Governor of California or maybe Senator is probably about as far as he can go in this new normal where past adulterous sexual affairs disqualifies one from the Presidency.

Not only is it a blatant campaign finance violation, but it shows he will do anything to cover up dirt from his past. You know, like agree to drop sanctions against an enemy of the US. This is quite a piece of corroborating evidence in the Russia probe.

and Michael Cohen is not much of a lawyer, he's just a fixer, the guy who comes after the horse in the circus and cleans up the dung.

The normalization of 45* 's behavior is partly because there is just so much slime we can take until we drown in it. And the Trumpsters don't care, they only care that he isn't Obama.

It's nauseating on so many levels. But I for one plan to remain outraged.

and no- I am not Russian, not Republican, and no- I don't like Trump.

It's just that this man has always been open about the human piece of trash he is. Republicans knew the man was a womanizer, a con man, a racist, a sexist pig. He voted for him BECAUSE of those things, believe it or not. He represents the unapologetic WASP patriarchy they felt Obama weakened. All of that talk about family values, they use it against our candidates because they just see our side as the enemy, and they will use anything they can to fight us. Barack Obama was not only a great president, but also a honorable man. Doesn't matter, because he's a black guy with a Muslim name who embraces diversity, economic opportunities for all and doesn't think we need to be bombing every foe out of existence unless it is truly necessary. His morality matters very little to people on the right. By the same token, Trump's lack of morality is not a problem in their eyes, because he is here to restore the old power structure they care so much about.

Trump is not normal. He is a spiritual tumor in America's soul, and he needs to be removed, along with the ideology that allowed him to become president. However, consensual sex with porn stars won't do it unless there was something illegal done along the way. Trump runs a criminal enterprise and joined forces with Russia to undermine our democracy- that's the big deal in my eyes, and my hope is that Robert Mueller will expose the crimes committed by Trump and Co., and that justice will be served.

The repuglican convention could have chosen a pig turd (and they did) and it didn't seem to make any difference.

Out of the 16 clowns in the car going into the convention, probably half of them all wanted to roll in the mud with the pig after they were trashed by said pig.

WTF is going on here? They, and perhaps others outside the party, have lost any semblance of decency.

There is something much deeper, more nefarious than just a bunch of mainly white/conservative/males deciding to put aside any moral standing in order to participate in this charade.

WTF is going on?

Everyone with a brain knew what he was like before Russia got him elected and Trumpers voted for him. It would be news if he had run on a family values platform, but he didn't.

The payment may get Cohen and/or Trump in trouble, but as far as the fling w/the porn star, there was nothing new. The spank was pretty bizarre. That may hurt people's opinion of Trump. Hard to get that visual out of the mind. And the fact that the sex was unprotected.

Even when they were impeaching Clinton, they were carrying on with the things he was accused of and worse.

If anything the "So?" reaction is pretty indicative of whats going to occur if she doesn't have something that gets him in trouble in a manner that the Republicans can't just ignore.

I'm more for Stormy telling her story because it should hurt his poll numbers and help Dems come Nov. I'm not expecting anything that she says or shows to cause the Republicans not to be hypocrites and attempt to impeach the guy. They hand waived away the Russia investigation to the extent that they basically called the Intel Community liars and have ignored all of his sexual assault accusers.

As for normalizing Trump, he's a garbage reality t.v. clown w/ no sense of depravity. We knew this before folks elected him. This entire episode should be of no shock to anyone on DU. This is our "normal" and the version of Trump that we've come to hate. I can't blame people here, who know what an ethically and legally challenged shitgoblin Drumpf is, for expecting something more than what we already know. I almost bought a bottle of wine for this interview because I thought that it was going to be a tawdry embarrassing show for Trump or would reveal some bombshells (regarding Cohen's payment) that would possibly get him in even more legal trouble.

Entrenched Republicans won't care about any of this. They also won't care about anything to do with Russia. Rachel Maddow and Co. have some nice nightly story telling combined with a monumentally incompetent perspective in terms of where it will lead.

Nowhere

Young people do care. Tom Steyer seems to be among the few who understand where to aim. Steyer initially wasted time with those impeachment commercials but now he's allotting $25 million to college campus registration drives, including community colleges. If every Rachel Maddow program dealt with the same topic and she did remote telecasts from those schools as the registration drives were underway, with enthusiastic new registers appearing on air with her, that would impact the long term prospects of this party and this nation. Republicans would be legitimately scared of that approach.

But Rachel has no clue toward situational impact so she'll continue with the easy method of figuring out what happened 6 or 18 months ago and spooning it toward an eager vindictive audience, toward Nowhere and as Republicans yawn.
