So why did DT/Cohen fight back so hard against Stormy, when her story

seems to be fairly trivial?

Maybe because there are other NDA's out there that deal with more serious behavior, and he doesn't want to set a precedent. He doesn't want an actual victim to think she can reneg on a signed NDA.

For example, I wonder about Katie Johnson, the woman who was suing him, claiming he had raped her when she was 13. Suddenly, she dropped her case, just a few days before the election.

Did he pay her off in some kind of "settlement"? Did he make her sign an NDA? He certainly wouldn't want her to come forward now, would he?

So I think it's possible he couldn't let Stormy win because it might embolden one or more actual victims.

The article below is about Harvey Weinstein, but some of the points might also apply to DT.

The Weinstein secrecy requirement also is in danger of being struck down by a judge or arbitrator because it violates the public interest, McRae said. “Given the degree of the decades-long serial sexual predation by their principal Weinstein,” lawsuits against the accusers would be “destined for failure in court,” he said. “There is inarguably a strong public interest in knowing what exactly happened and how it was allowed to happen so much and for so long.”

She says they had sex once, in a hotel room to which he invited her, and had another meeting where they watched TV. For which of those encounters would she have had an opportunity to arrange a camera (and this was 2005 - two years before the iPhone)

His star will fade quickly if this is all he has. But I take your point about the precedent issue.
