Ninety percent of the conversation being held today has nothing to do with the Second Amendment. They are simply attempting to claim we oppose the constitutional. Just about every reform being mentioned on a large scale is one hundred percent constitutionally grounded. Codified by the courts already.
They are the ones attempting to subvert the constitution. Not us.
The Second Amendment is not an absolute right to own a gun. Not even close. Our Second Amendment friends don't understand the constitution and court system, period.

(34,186 posts)At least I don't see any serious folks taking either extreme positions.
But there can be legitimate differences of opinions on what access to firearms, if any, should be protected when protecting the people's right to keep and bear arms.

(30,481 posts)There is no question about that. News program after news program has NRA lackeys and gun humpers on them talking about the anti-second amendment crowd. When the people they are referencing are discussing things that are clearly constitutional, they are making an absolutist argument.

It does seem like there are a lot of people who want to caricaturize the other side.

(13,340 posts)It is a common talking point that "shall not be infringed" means it's an absolute, unlimited right. They are nuts.

I frequent a couple of gun rights forums and most people who post support some limits or restrictions.

And, a big swatch of gunners are big into Molon Labe (come and take em) intimidation.
Care to share any names of the gun rights forums you frequent? Would love to quote some of their comments/posts.

(7,963 posts)All the pro gun nuts seem to say the same thing: I will be cold and dead before I let you come take my guns. They NEVER talk about background checks, mental health checks, assault weapons, etc. NEVER. It is about their god given right and constitutional right to stockpile whatever they want.

(13,340 posts)The 18th century concept of "natural law" uses a kind of "self evidence" argument. But the problem with that argument is there is no actual textual basis for it.

(20,023 posts)I'm ashamed to admit that I have a gun wacko cousin who posted a scary gun control image on Facebook that he apparently got from some crazy Ted Cruz website. It's the old Holocaust meme that tries to scare people into thinking that gun control could lead to another Holocaust, similar to this:
I pointed him to the Wikipedia examination of that meme that notes how "preposterous" it is to argue that the Jews, who constituted only one percent of the German population, could have somehow saved themselves if they had only had more guns.
Crazy, dishonest, and utterly despicable to try to use the Holocaust to scare people away from sensible gun control. I thought by now with all the information available to the Average Joe that most people would know that other countries don't have anywhere near the recurring gun tragedies that the U.S. has because of its insane gun culture. I was wrong.
