Being Trumps stooge could come back to haunt Devin Nunes in a big way
"Nunes can find his whole district has eroded right out from underneath him without him even noticing it."

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA On a balmy February evening, nearly 150 volunteers gathered in a small office park in Californias Central Valley, home to the North Fresno field office of Democratic congressional candidate Andrew Janz. Most have never been actively involved in politics, but they believe the 34-year-old Fresno County Deputy District Attorney has what it takes to unseat their congressman, Republican Rep. Devin Nunes, and turn Californias 22nd congressional district from red-to-blue. While projections show that Nunes is still safe in the upcoming 2018 elections, momentum against the incumbent has been building.
Nunes is widely perceived to be no more than a surrogate for President Donald Trump thanks to his mismanagement of, and subsequent recusal from, the House Intelligence Committees investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 election. So much so, that the districts leading newspaper, The Fresno Bee, which had previously endorsed Nunes, labelled him Trumps stooge in January. Nunes now refers to the paper as a left-wing rag.
Then, theres the infamous Nunes Memo. Reaction to the memo among Janzs supporters is visceral; its contents, a source of derision. Their congressmans staunch support of the president is not, however, the sole factor that has brought these activists together.
Nancy Gilmore, a retired engineer and lifelong Democrat from nearby Clovis said there are people in desperate need of help and Nunes has been unresponsive to their needs. Hes voted against air quality, EPA regulations, clean drinking water. Very baseline health issues. Theres the whole Russia thing, but whats most concerning is his complete and utter disregard for this district.
Gilmore believes Janz has a fighting chance. When Pennsylvania happened, it was like, wow, this could happen here, she told ThinkProgress, referring to Democrat Conor Lambs recent surprising victory in Pennsylvanias 18th congressional district.

(6,699 posts)...but let's put real honest to goodness progressives in place against these treasonous, low life sons of bitches.
Now is our hour. Just maybe, this corrupt, deplorable con artist can bring about something good to this extremely sick nation of ours. Some good could come about as a result of this nightmare.
All the sick, twisted, cancerous demons have come out of their closets as a result of this disgusting, smelly orange turd calling them out from under their rocks. NOW lets eradicate them for good!!

We need an electable Democrat. I hope that Janz is that Democrat.

(260 posts)In the 2016 election the results were Nunes 67.6% -- Campos 32.4%, much bigger spread than even the Pennsylvania 18th district that the Democrats just painted blue. So while he's someone I'm eager to wave buh-bye to, I won't be too disappointed if he's still around after his party loses the House majority (and he loses his chairmanship).

(82,849 posts)I don't know anything about Andrew Janz, but if he's running against Devin Nunes, he's almost certainly better. Nunes' district may look heavily Republican, but Republicans don't seem to be too fond of their own nowadays. Give voters a real choice and a chance to change the miserable representation they're getting from stooges like Nunes, and they might just surprise you.
The tidbit that Janz has already attracted 150 volunteers in February should be a jolt to Nunes. Who ever heard of that many people volunteering for a House campaign nine months before the election?

(21,784 posts). . .such as the ones Nancy Gilmore is talking about.
This way, no one can accuse him of being a "Pelosi Democrat" (and you can bet your ass the GOP will try to hang that particular albatross around Janz's neck)
