I came across some Facebook handwringer today all discombobulated about how (exact quote here) "Why was Emma, the Parkland speaker-girl, wearing a communist flag patch yesterday at the march?"
I had to admit, I was curious. I mean, I didn't see Emma Gonzalez wearing a hammer and sickle patch on her jacket at the speech. Had I missed something?
So I looked online. And I found this:
....I'm supposing the person was referring to the flag patch on Ms. Gonzalez's right shoulder.
It's a Cuban flag.
Emma Gonzalez, like many people living in South Florida, is of Cuban-American ancestry.
A little bit about the Flag of Cuba.
Wikipedia, if you please:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Cuba
The national flag of Cuba consists of five alternating stripes (three blue and two white) and a red equilateral triangle at the hoist, within which is a white five-pointed star. It was designed in 1849 and officially adopted May 20, 1902.
It is one of the two flags of a currently communist country (besides Laos) that does not use any communist symbolism.
Cuba became a Communist country in 1959.
Which--in case you are wondering--is after 1902.
Not to mention 1849.
Excuse me for a second.......

(10,252 posts)RWer knee-jerk reactionary disturbing emotional fear-mongering. Hey let's not listen to what she has to say. Let's just look at her shaved head and Cuban patch on her jacket and project our own subjective judgements onto her.

(82,383 posts)as if that has anything to do with what gun laws might be appropriate. Right wingers have ad hominem, and that's about it. Too bad they don't look in the mirror. If being a "bad person" makes your opinion on any issue invalid, maybe they should look at themselves.

(1,967 posts)If you don't like her ideas, we can talk about those. But to attack a young girl, especially for a person of power (Congressman Steve king) to attack a young girl, is reprehensible and cowardly.

(5,954 posts)1. There's no such thing as a 'Muslim prayer curtain.
2. That curtain is a gold oakleaf motif that's been there since the Eisenhower Administration.
3. There are dozens of pictures on the internet of the prophet Ronald Reagan (peace be upon him) standing in front of the same curtain. and...
4. Do you think they'd believe you if you pointed that out? NO. I tried for a couple of years, and finally gave up.
