CNN Poll: 42% approve of Trump, highest in 11 months.....WTF?

WASHINGTON (CNN)President Donald Trump's approval rating has rebounded to its highest level since the 100-day mark of his presidency, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, even as his approval ratings for handling major issues remain largely negative.

Overall, 42% approve of the way Trump is handling the presidency, 54% disapprove. Approval is up 7 points overall since February, including 6-point increases among Republicans (from 80% to 86% now) and independents (from 35% to 41% now). Trump's approval rating remains below that of all of his modern-era predecessors at this stage in their first term after being elected, though Trump only trails Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama by a narrow 4 points at this point in their first terms.

Trump's approval ratings have seesawed over the last four CNN polls -- from 35% in December up to 40% in January, down to 35% in February and back up to 42% now. Looking at intensity of approval, however, the share who strongly approve of Trump's performance (28% in the new poll) and strongly disapprove (46%) have held relatively steady over a similar time frame, suggesting the fluctuation in Trump's ratings comes largely among those whose views on the President aren't that deeply held.

The President's strongest approval ratings on the issues come on the economy, the only issue tested where his reviews tilt more positive than negative: 48% approve and 45% disapprove. That isn't the case on foreign trade, however, the economic issue on which Trump has most recently taken action, implementing tariffs aimed at Chinese imports, steel and aluminum. On trade generally, 38% approve of the President's work while 50% disapprove.

Will do that.

The issue for repubes is if it weren’t for Trump’s toxicity as a person, this should be higher.

Just wait until they go to file NEXT years taxes, and those delicious deductions they're looking for are gone, and when everything ELSE increases in cost. That modest tax cut and slight increase of their take home pay will be GONE, GONE, GONE by the way of Sandusky, AND, they'll end up actually paying MORE out than they'll be taking IN.

Truly informed people are a minority group. I don't know many people at all who have time to stay current on what is going on in Washington, or the Oral Office.

Well, a good chunk of them anyways. They’ll always believe Facebook fake news stories, stay in their own news bubbles and scream “Fake News,” and only care about sound bites. They can be so easily swayed that they’ll love Trump this month, hate him the next month, love him again, etc. etc. Elections and polls, and by extension American society, is dependent on winning over these idiots on a constant basis. You have to stop them from losing focus and chasing after the next shiny object.

This is the country of Trump, Sarah Palin, climate change denial, and creationism. American society is overwhelmingly stupid and easily impressed.

I mean the last few weeks have been nothing but chaos.

I guess I have to realize that many people just don't follow things closely. They might not realize the scope of the chaos and incompetence. I have to say though its a strange feeling. You wonder how in the world the number could be going up despite the overall mess.

Atrocity becomes normalcy when there haven't been high profile spikes recently.

I've been worried about the trend line for a couple of months. To maximize the midterms we need Trump in the high 30s or lows 40s tops.

This Stormy Daniels stuff and tariff controversy should stem the uptick. The current approval polls probably lag a little bit. I would expect a slight decline in the next week or two.

We picked up 27 House seats and 1 Senate seat in 1982 and lost 64 House seats and 6 Senate seats in 2010. I'll take the average !!!

As long as the economy holds up David Dennison is always going to have a floor.

but a critical mass of the American voting public is now too stupid to use their own intellect to evaluate even the worst political abuses. They are utterly dependent on propaganda tell them what is happening. Unless Mueller has a nuclear bomb to drop on Trump and the Republican party between now and November, this experiment in democracy may be over.

And even if he does, it may not make enough of a difference. I am not optimistic.

The right flank has decided to rally behind the Fascist.

That tells much about what kind of people Republicans are.

Polls show that 10-15% of the nation has sympathies towards Nazi beliefs.
More likely it is closer to 20% or a few points higher.
