Guess who wrote the new Census citizen question?

http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article207007581.html

That citizenship question on the 2020 Census? Kobach says he pitched it to Trump

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach encouraged President Donald Trump to add a question about citizenship status to the U.S. Census during the early weeks of Trump’s presidency.

More than a year later, Trump’s administration has moved to enact that exact policy for the 2020 census.

“I won’t go into exact detail, but I raised the issue with the president shortly after he was inaugurated,” Kobach said Tuesday.

Kobach, a Republican candidate for Kansas governor who is running on a platform focused on immigration, also published a column in January on Breitbart calling for Trump to reinstate the question to the Census.

(end snip)

Kobach, freshly humiliated during the ACLU trial, is an idiot. I knew as soon as I read the news who wrote it.

https://www.census.gov/dmd/www/pdf/d02p.pdf

It includes a citizenship question; the smaller form, I think, didn't.

The 1965 was apparently an annual survey.

I've seen people claim that the citizenship question hasn't been on the census form since 1950. That's false, relying on the phrase "the census form." If you accept the possibility of there being two different forms, you can understand the way things actually ran: Long form had the question; short form, no. As the Census Bureau puts it, the citizenship question hasn't been asked of every household since 1950, which is different from saying it's not been on "the census form" or even "it hasn't been asked."

Cambridge Analytica probably has the Facebook data analyzed by now. They'll need a new project to work on.

Is cute enough to memorialize in statues and on vehicles? Honestly it looks kind of stupid. Didn't anyone teach the kid to use a toilet?

I probably don't win anything for guessing correctly, right? More of a rhetorical question kind of thing?

Hopefully, MSM will pair news about the census question with news about the trial so people can match the idiot to the idiotic idea.

Could people simply choose to NOT answer that question? Could people LIE to skew the results? Unless it's a "papers please" census, how would they know?

though I don't remember any stories of people being charged for not participating.

All the rest is gravy. You can just say, "X people live here." and shut the door.

My friend was a census taker last time around. She was told to write what she heard, period. She says she wasn't even allowed to ask for clarification of spelling of names.

Of course, they'll have your address, so they can get your name, and run it through one of those services and find out a bunch of stuff about you that way. Not much you can do about that, since you can't really stop them from accessing public records.

Wikipedia:
According to the "72-Year Rule," the National Archives releases census records to the general public 72 years after Census Day. As a result, the 1930 census records were released April 1, 2002, and the 1940 records were released April 2, 2012. The 1950 census records will be released in April 2022.Aug 8, 2017

They can release the numbers derived from the data immediately. For example, they can tell us the population is X, of which Y are citizens and Z are aliens. Or that there are A children under 18 and B adults over 65. That kind of thing.

Just Googled it. I don't think that noncitizens would leave that question blank, since that could also draw attention to them and that's the last thing they want to do in the present Trump environment. They just won't turn in the form. If I was them, I wouldn't. Even if the census bureau assured people that the INS wouldn't use the forms to go after people, why take the risk.

Yes the census is mandatory but no one is going to jail for not cooperating. Census workers have a variety of ways of getting the information from non-cooperating households.

Yes people can lie. Census workers are told to write down exactly the answer they are given and do not challenge anyone. No one asks for id papers or ss numbers. The only real thing the census wants to know is the number of people in the residence. There are a variety of methods used to make sure that is accurate. The rest of the questions are just things that various government units at the local, state and federal level want to know for their operations and to plan for the future.

What if we just get the word out that people of all stripes (and citizenship) should just decline to answer this question? Let's promote widespread non-cooperation on this question to encourage our brothers and sisters to participate in the census without fear of having to answer this question.

We did not get a mail form nor did anyone show up at the door in 2010. Next door neighbor got her mail form.

I am curious to see what happens this time around.
