Ex-Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort escalates challenge to Mueller indictment
Former Trump campaign chairman Paul J. Manafort asked a federal court Tuesday to toss out 18 criminal charges against him in Virginia, sharpening his challenge to the legitimacy of special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.
The pretrial motions to dismiss an indictment intensified a legal attack mounted by Manafort in a lawsuit in January. In that lawsuit, Manafort contends Mueller has exceeded his legal authority and is asking to void the Justice Departments appointment of him.
Manaforts attorneys in January and again in a longer, 38-page filing Tuesday argued that acting attorney general Rod J. Rosenstein improperly ordered Mueller to investigate links and/or coordination between the Russian government and Trump campaign, as well as any matters that arose or may arise directly from that investigation.
The order gave Mueller a blank check that the Special Counsel has cashed, repeatedly to prosecute Manafort for alleged conduct that did not arise from the investigation and predates the campaign and which, Manaforts attorneys argue, prosecutors knew about and declined to pursue in 2014.

And then there are those like Susan Sarandon... she's someone who can she can barely contain her excitement at the horrors that await us. Just LOOK at how giddy and animated she is when talking about Trump being the president. (How nice that she can afford to maintain her lifestyle while the most vulnerable among us suffer because of her vanity and the toxic mindset that she helped to spread.)

(118,379 posts)whether my client was involved in a kidnappin, and instead of that they find he committed a few murders here, and a few rapes there, and was runnin a meth lab. Now that weren't what they wuz spoze be lookin into, right? So it would be just gosh-durn unfair to persecute the pore feller for all that other stuff, wouldn't it? I feels shore you'll see that. It turns a legitimate investigation into a witch-hunt! It ruins his reputation!"
