Thomas Cushman, a tenured sociology professor at the college, will leave campus for a year, and the college is overhauling the program, which brings conservative and controversial speakers to campus. The college will appoint a new director for the next academic year and is creating a task force to recommend ways to explore the important role of free speech on campus, according to a statement sent from the college.
The shake-up occurred after the Globe outlined how Wellesleys Freedom Project was pitched to conservative donors as a way to break through perceived liberal dogma on American campuses. (42,282 posts)3. There is an old joke about dirty money
The gambler/saloon owner/keeper of the whorehouse waves a hundred dollar bill in front of the minister--"You're too holy to take the devil's money, aren't you?" Minister grabs the bill and says "The devil's had it long enough!"
Taking the money is one thing; letting them write the sermons is another. I believe Molly Ivins noted that a good politician knows you don't have to dance with everyone who helps get you to the ball.
