I'm ashamed that our country could be so heartless.



I'll just paste the text from the go fund me page here. We've known Mr. Barragan and his family since our son was in first grade. He and Cristian became friends trading Pokemon cards at the playground after school. I just wanted to vent my frustration at the heartlessness. It is with a heavy heart we are asking for help for the Barragan family.

Maria Paxtor Perez, mother to Cristian 10 years old and Daniel 8 years old, is now all alone taking care of her two boys. That’s because a few days ago Maria’s husband and father to the boys, Benjamin Barragan, traveled to Mexico to interview for a USA permanent residency. After 20 years of living in the US and being married to a US citizen he was still denied permanent residency and he is prohibited from applying again for at least 10 years. It’s possible he can never come back to the USA.

To make the situation graver Maria is battling stage 4 breast cancer. Because of it, she is unable to work and currently they have absolutely no income. Living in Mexico is not an option since she is currently undergoing weekly chemo therapy. It’s also worth noting Maria and the boys have never set foot in Mexico. The only family they have around them is their school community. The Brooklyn Arbor school family, where our kids go to school with Daniel and until he graduated last year, Cristian.

The need is great. Think of your daily needs (food, rent, school uniforms) and they are lacking it all. Add to that the health battle, the need for a legal guardian for the two boys, and the legal battle on the immigration front. Your financial donation would be great help and much appreciated. Es con la mano en el corazón que hacemos este pedido para la familia Barragán.

María Paxtor Perez, madre de Cristian de 10 años y Daniel de 8 años, se a quedado sola cuidando a sus niños. Ya que hace unos días, Benjamín Barragán, esposo de María y padre de los niños, viajo a México para su entrevista de residencia permanente en Estados Unidos. Después de vivir en Estados Unidos por 20 años y estando casado con una ciudadana Americana, aun le negaron la residencia y le prohibieron regresar por al menos 10 años. Tal vez nunca le den permiso de regresar.

Para agravar la situación, María esta luchando contra cáncer de mama etapa 4. Por lo mismo no puede trabajar y ahora que Benjamín está en México no tienen ingresos alguno. Vivir en México no es opción por la radio terapia que recibe María en el hospital cada semana. Ni María ni los niños siquiera conocen a México y no tienen familia en Nueva York. La única familia que tienen es la de nuestra comunidad de la escuela Brooklyn Arbor, donde van nuestros niños junto a Daniel y hasta el año pasado cuando se graduó, Cristian.

La necesidad es muy grande. Piensa en lo que necesitas cada día (comer, renta, uniformes escolares) y ellos carecen de todo eso. Agregare también la batalla legal y de salud. Una donación financiera de cualquier cantidad seria mucha ayuda. También estamos colectando nombres de organizaciones o caridades. Los mantendremos actualizados sobre la situación de la familia.
