"The 2016 election is over and Donald Trump is president, so why is Hillary Clinton still making public appearances and talking to crowds?
Or, as Ruth Mandel director of Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics put it to Clinton Tursday at Rutgers in Piscataway, why still talk when "People say get of the stage and shut up"?
The former secretary of state's response was direct:
"They never said that to any man who was not elected."

(31,516 posts)in the woods, either. I don't understand why they are all so eager to have Hillary disappear from the public forum. Maybe she reminds too many people of the bad choice they made when they decided not to vote for her.

Why the hell is he still all over the talk shows?

(6,288 posts)Campaign was "rigged" against.
Yet she never ever turned that truth into a self pitying, self serving campaign meme.
She is owed apologies from ALL of those who demanded her silence.
Candidates, pile-on social media bshitters & especially Main Stream MEDIA.
They are all the biggest embarassment this nation has ever witnessed.
Speak your years of wisdom Sec Clinton.
You have always put the well being of human rights before yourself. You hide nothing from us.
She has claimed her place among the footsteps of the greats.

(1,366 posts)And I agree that she has been treated horribly -- now and before the election.
But the empiricist in me has to recognize that she was the first major female candidate and so therefore whatever happened to her would be the first. And male "losers" have often been treated roughly -- (e.g. Michael Dukakis).
I think sexism is a huge part of it, but in addition the state of American politics in the last 30 years has a lot to do with it (remember the Dean Scream?).
Had she lost (and I have to be honest, I'm still not totally sure she actually did, but that takes us someplace else) to a better human being than we have in the White House, and if the hate and lack of genuine ideas from that other party wasn't so on display (e.g. denying Pres Obama a hearing on his Sup Ct nominee), and if some people on the left weren't so insistent that she was just as bad as DJT, we might be in a much more respectful place now.
For myself, I think of her as political voice that she alone can decide when to quiet. She has paid her dues.
Let's blame sexism, sure, but let's not let every other culprit off the hook.

(12,448 posts)On a variety of topics. She not only has the right to do so, her views are welcome, and needed. It's right and necessary that we hear from someone experienced, smart, and articulate. Hell, the bar has been lowered so far that someone who can speak in complete, understandable sentences is an improvement over what we have to hear from the so-called president.
Still with her!

(9 posts)Yes people did say that to a man. People said it about Al Gore frequently, after he lost the presidential election in 2000.
One example: https://www.nytimes.com/2002/08/10/opinion/we-love-you-you-re-perfect-goodbye.html
Hillary should have easily remembered that time period and argument against Gore, since Gore was her husband's VP. It was a pretty big discussion at the time. In my opinion, she gave an intellectually dishonest answer, going for the identity politics applause line, but it's not really true.

(32,640 posts)It's about people telling Gore not to run again, not to go away.
I don't recall him being told to go away at the Oscars, nor that him being told things like "go take up knitting" was part of any "big discussion" at all.
In my opinion what is "intellectually dishonest" is to claim that's what HRC is talking about, and that Gore was treated the same way.
Did Bill Bradley supporters protest his speeches in 2002? Please share any instances that you know of.

(297,210 posts)said it to, Hillary.. right on this board, too.
"our revolution" was going to protest her as a private citizen, when she was getting paid less than others, who have spoken at Rutgers, and other Universities. Until they were pressured not to.
I don't know if they protested her under another name, like they said they would, or not.
They were acting like they wanted to shut her up.. as a private citizen.
Thank you for this, still_one
