Jimmy Carter didn't hold back in his assessment of President Trump.
During a Friday appearance on "The Late Show," host Stephen Colbert asked the 93-year-old former president whether America wants "kind of a jerk as president."
"Apparently, from this recent election, yes," Carter quipped, drawing a wave of laughter.
At the same time, Carter who was promoting a new book titled Faith: A Journey for All acknowledged that he "prays" for the current president.
"I pray that he'll be a good president and that he'll keep our country at peace; and that he'll refrain from using nuclear weapons and that he'll promote human rights," Carter said. "So, yeah, I pray for him."
Although he doesnt mention Trump by name in the book, he writes about his concerns that racial and other divisions among Americans have been exacerbated since the 2016 presidential election.

(2,434 posts)to be a true Christian.
I follow a native form of spirituality, and am not qualified to judge, but it is apparent to me that President Carter walks a Christian Path, and the Jerry Farwell JRs of the world appear to me to be playing for the other side.

(9,953 posts)...wants a jerk for a President? Not exactly... the Jerk was elected, yes, but America picked Hillary Clinton for their President.
I guess you could say the Electoral College wanted the jerk... but, really, I'm tired of the "American people voted for Trump." Some did, but not most.
PS President Carter is a good man.

(21,106 posts)As I have said before, I always admired Carter, but that is gone. Why didn't you mention that the "recent election" was stolen and illegitimate. And Pray for him? Damn, that's really gonna help alot.

That, and that wonderful accent; those gentle Georgia cadences.
I loved the t-shirt Stephen gave him:
"Carter 2020
STILL CONSTITUTIONALLY ELIGIBLE"

(10,163 posts)A jerk he could manipulate. We know Putin was busily hacking our election systems. We know more people voted for Hillary. We know Putin was secretly targeting vulnerable voters with propaganda. We know Putin has hacked and controls many electrical and nuclear plants as well as other infrastructure.
But we just can't quite admit to ourselves Putin rigged our elections for a Trump win.
