...the first effect of telling Trump he's a 'subject' and not a 'target' will clearly be Trump feeling unbound to act more aggressively, even if his legal status is still up in the air.
I realize that it may well be just a blip in this investigation, but most of us can see Trump breaking the law right in front of us. It stings to imagine he'll walk. It hurts to think he might escape charges.
Even though Mueller has done a good job, so far, increasing jeopardy for the Trump cabal, this reported development appears to lessen pressure on the president, if only on paper. Sue me for feeling pessimistic. Mueller needs to fix this.

(115,735 posts)He's a subject, and he could become a target in a New York minute. Also, the question of whether a sitting president can be indicted hasn't been definitively resolved, so what Mueller could do instead is write a report detailing his crimes (if there is sufficient evidence of them) and send it to Congress as a basis for impeachment.

(34,661 posts)Grand Jury,if there is or are any chargeable offenses, and these charges are backed by evidence, charges will be brought. Remember, this Grand Jury will most likely call Trump to questioned, without Attorney, and most likely each and every member of that Jury will have questions to ask.
As someone posted earlier today, you can walk into a Grand Jury room as a Subject and Leave a Target charge with a crime.

I get that it's a big deal that a 'suspected' criminal is in the WH.

(14,249 posts)And had he been the subject from day one, it would have looked like a witch hunt.
A good prosecutor never starts at the top and then tries to find evidence to support their suspicions. Mueller had to start with the actual evidence he had and work his way up.

Does anyone believe Congress will easily impeach Trump for anything other than criminal charges, much less crimes said to be committed in a report?
