(1,718 posts)Before your revenue was based on how many views you got but now it's based on how much time those views actually went to watching the videos. Screwed over a lot of people who relied on Youtube for a living.

(28,208 posts)Once people click on a video, they realize that they were part of a click bait campaign and exit the video.
YouTubes policy means that you actually have to create content that people want to watch before cashing in.

(11,949 posts)YouTube had no obligation to these folks.
Its their ball. They get to say how the game is played.
Going only from what you wrote it sounds like they did not want their viewer to be lured into clicking onto crappy videos that did not keep people watching. I do not see a downside.

(1,204 posts)They create content that people enjoy and in return they can make good money doing it. These people usually spend a lot of time making their videos, though.
Here's a channel I watch a lot. I don't find his videos or him making a living off it as being silly.

(3,051 posts)Sitting here at my desk, having looked at a handful of her videos, my completely unprofessional opinion is she was coo-coo as CoCo Puffs.
There was a terrible trifecta (fivefecta?) of errors made in the 1970s regarding mental health:
1. Cheap Ronald Reagan wanted to shut down mental hospitals because they were very very expensive (and they are very, very expensive).
2. Greedy drug companies sold us on the lie that their drugs could make complete loons perfectly safe.
3. Good-hearted (but naive) people wanted to close mental hospitals because they were terrible places (and grossly underfunded, see No 1).
4. Sensationalist media (looking at you, Geraldo Rivera) made the hospitals appear worse than they were with camera tricks worthy of the "Blair Witch Project".
5. Naive judges raised the standard for commitment after being fooled by "experts" hired by #2 above, egged on by #3 -- and unopposed by No. 1.
It's past time to re-examine when we can put loons away for their safety and the safety of others.
