'we should have kept the oil'
What a sick man.

(43,182 posts)I dont think Dubya ever expressly stated that, however. (Members of his administration may have implied something similar, though.)

(58,724 posts)It has been 10 years since Operation Iraqi Freedom's bombs first landed in Baghdad. And while most of the U.S.-led coalition forces have long since gone, Western oil companies are only getting started.
Before the 2003 invasion, Iraq's domestic oil industry was fully nationalized and closed to Western oil companies. A decade of war later, it is largely privatized and utterly dominated by foreign firms.
From ExxonMobil and Chevron to BP and Shell, the West's largest oil companies have set up shop in Iraq. So have a slew of American oil service companies, including Halliburton, the Texas-based firm Dick Cheney ran before becoming George W. Bush's running mate in 2000.

Telling the truth about Bush and his war for oil in Iraq has nothing to do with Trump who is a deranged and horrifically monstrous human being and awful president.

(3,479 posts)isn't the same thing as flat-out stealing the oil and making it US property, which is what Trump advocates.

(58,724 posts)But Bush actually had the US attack Iraq and their resources were plundered so I think he deserves to be singled out for disapprobation on that score.

(22,037 posts)Haliburton, Cheney's former company, was going bankrupt until the Iraq war came about. The oil services company profited massively from their contracts in Iraq following the U.S. invasion.
Maybe we didn't take the oil but certain companies did extremely well thanks to the Bush administration.

(3,479 posts)to deploy the national guard to the southern border is a good idea. Because the big scary caravan is coming.

(13,596 posts)at our Eagles Lodge and listened to a couple right around "Mission Accomplished" day. One was saying, "I'm a Roman, I'm talking empire! Lets just take the oil!" I thought good luck with that. I thought it more likely that the oil companies would get to load it up at our expense and loot us for even more billions. This assclown was thinking he'd get $1.80 a gallon gas for years probably.
