Dementia speech patterns video. Stunning similarities to Trump!

Hi everyone, since some of us are discussing the possibility that on top of everything else Trump may be suffering from early stage dementia (we’ve had family members who suffered from this terrible disease so in no way am I implying that Trump gets let off the hook for his atrocious behavior for a disease as his views have been known for some time), I wanted to post a link to a video on YouTube that is by and for people who work with dementia and Alzheimer’s patients (it is about speech patterns specifically). I’m not in the medical field so obviously this is speculation but the similarities seem striking to me.

The video is long (for YouTube) and in-depth. Skip to 9:48 to see the “fluent” type of impaired speech as it is shockingly similar to present Trump imho.

https://m.

The presenter’s style is exuberant (and she’s using hand motions as a way to help the attendees understand the physical nature of the disease). It might take a moment to get used to her style but her demonstration of what happens to language skills is excellent.

I see uncanny links to Trump — the retention of “rhythm” of speech and omitting every third or fourth word or so while losing the “train” of meaning. Lack of depth in speech and use of “bad words” (Trump’s inappropriate use of sex talk or racist language that is blurted out and would have been something he THOUGHT but didn’t say necessarily in the past — we lose our ability to monitor these words but not the words themselves as they are stored elsewhere in the brain (she discusses this). So it’s not uncommon for a person with dementia to attempt chit-chat and then say “nice boobs” or “boobies” or “nice penis” or a racist slur(she demonstrates this speech pattern as well with the sex talk). Again, no excuses for Trump. It’s just interesting, and if anyone else wants to watch the demonstrations it’s worth giving it some time.

Not only does it really illustrate what some have been talking about when they say they see the signs in Trump, but it is such useful information for all of us. She is a great instructor too.

Thanks for posting this highly instructive and provocative clip. I say it not only in terms of a Trumpster diagnosis--which I think is pretty clear at this point--but as a daughter whose father went through the Alzheimer's cycle and a sister of a woman diagnosed with premature dementia/Alzheimer's. This sort of thing is incredibly important for family & caretakers who frequently feel overwhelmed by fatigue and frustration.

Thanks again!

He said this phrase three times in a one minute statement, and repeated twice how his military would be bigger than that of anyone else. The truth is the U.S. military budget is already is bigger than China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, India, France, the United Kingdom, Japan and Germany -- combined. And that's not including the money to put on Trump's ego-parade "in the not too distant future."

Of course, the fact that no one on his staff or in the State Department knew in advance about his announcement about his confab with his friend Pooty-Poo only shows he's an incompetent dolt who should not hold any public office, let alone the presidency. You do not invite to dinner as a friend the man who sabotaged your elections and poisoned the citizens of your allies on their soil, let alone show propaganda of his missiles attacking your country.

I would love to see Rachel or the MSM do a piece on, "Does the President Have Dementia?"

I play music with a jazz pianist who is showing signs of memory loss/early dementia. His music skills are still very good, but sometimes he plays a "quote" in the middle of an improvisation, and then launches off into a different song. Keeps me on my toes.

I understand so much more about him after watching this vid. Many thanks for posting it.

more about dementia.

This lady is quite a good teacher. I enjoyed her teaching methods. My mother had dementia (presumed to be Alzheimer’s) and she lived with me the last three years of her life. She died in 2006. Seeing those demonstrations in the presentation brought back memories of trying to communicate with my mother and to calm her in times of stress and confusion. The video (and workshop it was based on) should be mandatory for everyone involved in elder care.

I will watch more of her videos to see if I see familiar things with tRump. There are many of her videos on YouTube. There are clearly some changes going on with tRump but I have no idea if they are early dementia signs. I do know that long before now, he had clear signs of jackassery. Those are still present...sadly.

Thank you for sharing this. I wish I had seen it while my mother, who had early-onset dementia, was still alive.

Towards the end, she was babbling a lot, using rhythm not words, just as the instructor demonstrates in this video. And you could tell she was frustrated and upset because we weren't "getting it." So during a visit one day, we pulled up the fight song for her favorite football team and as soon as she heard it, she immediately brightened and started clapping along, keeping perfect time. It was truly remarkable. Now I know why that happened.

I recognize some of the behavior my mother engaged in when she developed dementia. And yes, I see similarities to Trump's speech.
