The Democrats ran a Seattle-centric campaign in 2016. It was headquartered in Seattle's Madrona neighborhood, which votes 90 percent Democratic. A late weekend get-out-the-vote rally with Chelsea Clinton was held at Town Hall Seattle. Hillary Clinton came only to Seattle, and only to raise money.
The result: Clinton piling up a 500,000-vote margin in King County. The Democrats lost local races in Snohomish, Pierce, Thurston and other counties. Trump swept traditional Democratic counties in Southwest Washington, which the Democrats ignored.
New state Democratic chair Tina Podlodowski has pumped life into the party where it loses elections. Big crowds have turned out for "flip the 5th" and "flip the 8th" organizing sessions, in the two Republican-held Congressional districts that the Democrats hope to win.
The Democrats have even fielded two attractive candidates -- ex-Tri-Cities broadcaster Corrine Brown and WSU-Vancouver Prof. Carolyn Long -- for the seats of entrenched Republican U.S. Reps. Dan Newhouse and Jaime Herrera Beutler.

Suzan del Bene has also been doing well in her swing district north of Seattle. Things are looking hopeful.

(6,699 posts)How she has maintained a seat for the past 8 years blows my mind. It just proves that if you don't provide a solid choice, you can get stuck with this sort of empty headed loser.
She has had NOTHING BUT phone town halls. I was stupid enough to listen to the first one (info-mercial)...pathetic. I will never be so insulted again.
Brian Baird gave up on us 8 years ago, and we've stuck with this brainless rubber stamp ever since. Vancouver is predominantly Democratic. This makes NO sense.

(17,625 posts)..their dislike and 'disappointment' in Ryan and McCain. They would have shared more but i was walking with them to my car that had RESIST bumperstickers on it. They politely ended their convo so not to offend me but i was hoping they would keep on talking. These were older white guys..vets..
