I feel kind of ashamed though. When I first read it, I found it humorous because it was so simple (as well as complex). Many a folk of white privilege cannot grasp the situation of it. Seems maybe some even posting in the thread might not be fully aware. If you are of a lighter skin tone but in an area that has been red-lined, you sometimes can relate.

About fifteen years ago the kids had a party at the house. It turned out to be a very large party. We live out in the sticks on a couple acres, so yea the parties can get big around here. There were no older adults at the house during the party and scuttlebutt got tossed around about it. Somehow someone's teenage daughter had run away and they had got convinced that she was somehow at the party. They called the cops and I had never seen so many cop cars in one area. I was working swing shift and when I came home there it was. Even a copter in the air at one point.

The cops thought somehow the girl was hiding in the master bedroom because the wife had locked it up before she had left to go to her sisters. The cops wanted in there bad but of course there was nobody in there so opening the door was kind of anticlimactic. The kids got a warning not to have a party like this again and I got a warning to be a more responsible parent.

Years ago I was awakened in bed in the early morning by armed cops. I am not a criminal, so I wasn't afraid or angry. I groggily asked them what's up. They told me that they were doing a welfare check. Turns out a neighbor called them after not seeing me around for a while. LOL. (They actually were at my bedside, when they woke me up. I guess I hadn't answered to a knock? I don't know. How embarrassing!)

So, Newt...I KNOW exactly how that feels. If the citizen isn't a criminal, there's no need for fear or anger. THEY'RE DOING THEIR JOB. And that's a GOOD thing.

The search was legally done in the morning, not in the middle of the night. It was authorized by a Republican court-ordered warrant by knocking on the front door. Cohen thanked the agents who he said “were extremely professional, courteous and respectful.”
