Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsA shout out to... Quiet DUers!
To all those members of Democratic Underground who DON'T post monumental, epic posts, but who quietly READ everything, RECOMMEND what they read and even ADD a short comment or two.
They're not flashy nor do they wish to attract attention to themselves. They're either long-time posters, newbies (welcome!) or long-time lurkers who have decided to participate.
Here's to all of you!

(10,419 posts)I've met many wonderful people on DU - some even personally at DC events - yet an increasing number of comments are jumped on over issues so ridiculous (like a pronoun) they should have sarcasm smilies, but don't. And it's really gotten worse lately.
Edit to add: Please don't jump on me for this post. I'm sensitive!!! And I love DU and read it every day.

(275 posts)The grammer Nazi's annoy me too. We are here to share values and give each other hope that we can overcome the Republic party ( tee hee). If some one makes a typo or a spelling error, it in no way invalidates his or her point.
Th1onein
(8,514 posts)I find it very sad that people attack each other personally, when they disagree on an issue. It's so counterproductive.
Republicans are fact-poor, and it is our job to educate them. How will we ever do that when our modus operandi is to attack them personally? We need to learn to talk to everyone, whether they are Republicans or Democrats, whether they agree with us on every issue, or disagree with us, in a civil manner. We only alienate when we don't. And that divides us.
I think that most people want the same things, and really are liberal, when it comes down to personalizing the issues. We can't tap into that unless we stop beating people up.

(4,452 posts)I have been around DU since forever but generally post only in response to threads that I feel I have some worthwhile contribution.
Two of the greatest things about DU are those that post links to important news stories and information that are truly valuable and those that start honest discussions on important concerns.
I feel the greatest thanks should go to those that make this forum possible. Those that monitor and report important news and those that put on the flameproof suit and try to engage a discussion about important issues. With those I would also include those that give us a break from the serious issues facing us with comedic relief or provide that human connection to show we're all in this together.

(1,340 posts)Nice thread, Canuckistanian. I've been here since 2001. Rode in on the Horse. I don't post much at all anymore, but I read and recommend. I don't post because I don't have time to get into long discussions and because, living in California, the timing is often wrong--much of what I have to say has already been said by the time I get to it. I know there are several dedicated CA posters, but it generally did not work for me. Just poppin' in to say Hi.

(6,794 posts)since the beginning. DU saved my life when George Bush was elected. I don't enter the political discourse because I suspect that all of you are much smarter than me and I learn more by reading what you have to say. I find the rants amusing but at times boring. I get lot of laughs and a few tears here too. Sometimes, your posts are the first news of its kind. What I really like is being to curse and say damn it the republicans really have gone crazy. This is the only 'blog forum' I financially support so do feel proud because I'm just a toddler in this political world. I gave up on Politics in the 70s when Nixon said, I'm not a crook! Until Obama showed up in 06, I just didn't freaking care about politics and couldn't understand how people could get so involved. Fast forward to 2012 and I am here everyday. You're one of my 'home tabs' so I park myself here looking for news when I'm on-line. Thank you for recognizing the 'quiet' ones and know that you ALL are very appreciated even if we don't speak up much.

(3,622 posts)didn't get a chance to even know what was so threatening in my post, or to even know what it was about.
That is pretty crappy not to be informed about the post and to be able to have an opportunity to edit
or correct it or delete it so I could know which post was offensive. I am not sure of the time gap between
the post and monitors deleting the post, but I was offended for not having a chance to consider tending
to my own message, given some misunderstanding occurred, because I am pretty sure I wasn't any more
confrontational than usual about Repukes or some stealth crap going on in our country. Is this no longer
a progressive and respectful of members venue?
Where are the rules that say where you can change your mind by learning something you didn't know
and are willing to communicate for bonding social change. Now that would be progressive.
This deleting is thievery of a person's reputation and soul, when they mean one thing and are misinterpreted
and don't get a chance to defend.
This has never happened before and I have been here since 2007-2008.
So I stopped posting. I don't like being censored. And I am not afraid of cursing, nor Repukes.
But I am not threatening at all. I don't think. But I would love to see my shadow if someone
really has something to say.
