I predict widespread rioting in the streets by at least January 2014. We already have a generation of intelligent, energetic young people who worked their butts off to get through college, only to find themselves working minimum-wage jobs and living in their parents' basements. Then there are the millions, mostly seniors, minorities, and students, who will have found themselves the victims of voter suppression campaigns now taking place all over the country. Then there will be those of us who did vote but who don't trust that the election wasn't rigged. In short, there will be millions who feel they have nothing to lose and nothing to look forward to. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

(1,039 posts)There won't be widespread riotings. The earth won't end. As a nation, we'll backslide, but we'll survive it and move forward after it is over.
We survived 8 years of Bush. We surved 12 years of Reagan/Bush. We'll still control the Senate or at least have a very strong ability to fillibuster. We'll survive 4 years of Romney.

We are at a real tipping point I believe.

(13,685 posts)They know it is coming. Look at how they are arming the police.
Getting the military trained in crowd control.
But they know that if the people ever do rise up as one they will never have enough police or troops to contain us.
History: The mood in this country during the Vietnam war changed when body bags started flooding the small towns of America. It pushed back the war lovers for a while. Then Reagan was elected and they were back in power.

(39,343 posts)Between the election and inauguration day the howls will come flying from the right wing about how he's not pure enough, or like here in Florida about how he's a corrupt businessman who should never have been elected. The right will point at the left for not fighting harder in the election and somehow dooming us to his rule.
Then after he starts to put in his programs of profit for big business at the expense of everyone else in the State (Nation), they'll be pushback from the right as well as the left.
Then after a few years, we'll all be poorer, sicker, and have less government programs to help out those who need it more now than ever.
Look at Florida to see how the US would look

(154,021 posts)No, not really, and if there is, look at Irvine this weekend to see what will meet them, the use of force.
Until Americans in general are all but comfortable and lose all, not for another generation.
Now, if Romney wins, I will bet on the rise of the kind of a police security apparatus we have barely been able to hold off. Frank Zappa comes to mind.
As is, what we have is mere illusion anyway.
