Who Said It? Jeff Sessions or Harry J. Anslinger?

Harry J. Anslinger
As President Trump echoes Adolf Hitler and Richard Nixon with his attacks on the media as the enemy of the people, his attorney generals views on pot and the people who smoke, vape and eat it are reminiscent of the man who inspired Reefer Madness in America. Harry J. Anslinger, the first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics beginning in the 1930s, was Americas original racist drug warrior. Jeff Sessions, the newly appointed U.S. Attorney General, is the most recent.
Here are some cannabis quotes from both men. Can you tell who said what?
Good people dont smoke marijuana.
If the hideous monster Frankenstein came face to face with the monster of marijuana he would drop dead of fright.
Answer
By the tons it is coming into this country the deadly, dreadful poison that racks and tears not only the body but the very heart and soul of every human being who once becomes a slave to it in any of its cruel ad devastating forms. Marijuana is a shortcut to the insane asylum. Smoke marijuana cigarettes for a month and what was once your brain will be nothing but a storehouse of horrid specters.
You cant have the President of the United States of America talking about marijuana like it is no different than taking a drink, saying I used marijuana when I was in high school and it is no different than smoking. It is different. And you are sending a message to young people that there is no danger in this process. It is false that marijuana use doesnt lead people to more drug use. It is already causing a disturbance in the States that have made it legal. I think we need to be careful about this.
Answer
You cant sue somebody for drug debt; the only way to get your money is through strong-arm tactics, and violence tends to follow that.
Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.
Answer
Reefer makes darkies think theyre as good as white men.
The Ku Klux Klan was okay until I found out they smoked pot.
Answer
We need grown ups in Washington to say marijuana is not the kind of thing that ought to be legalized, it ought not to be minimized, that it is in fact a very real danger.
You smoke a joint and youre likely to kill your brother.
How many murders, suicides, robberies, criminal assaults, holdups, burglaries and deeds of maniacal insanity it causes each year, especially among the young, can only be conjectured
No one knows, when he places a marijuana cigarette to his lips, whether he will become a joyous reveler in a musical heaven, a mad insensate, a calm philosopher, or a murderer
I dont think America is going to be a better place when people of all ages, and particularly young people, are smoking pot. I believe its an unhealthy practice, and current levels of THC in marijuana are very high compared to what they were a few years ago, and were seeing real violence around that.

(1,472 posts)Does he just make this stuff up? Violence? Maybe Anslinger is his source.

(51 posts)Sessions' arguments are just as inane as Anslinger's were. How can supposedly educated people be so shortsighted. Are they completely unaware of our country's experience with past prohibition? It was never the booze that led to organized crime and violence. It was the prohibition of booze. If marijuana were decriminalized and taxed and regulated it would be killing two birds with one stone. More money for the assistance of drug addicts, less overcrowding in prisons. And don't get me started on the topic of medical cannabinoids. Keeping a clinically proven aid for chronic pain and cancer victims out of reach for so many sufferers because of Schedule 1 classification is simple cruelty.

(1,472 posts)What you wrote are indisputable facts. What is the end-game? Pharmaceutical companies involved? (Ya think?) All of the appointees were given instructions to demolish the bureaucracy as much as possible. Maybe this is his way to accomplish that goal.
