Last year the Boy Scouts of America announced the century-old organization would allow girls to join for the first time in history. Today, they announced next year the name of its scouting program will change to Scouts BSA, in honor of the inclusion of girls into its programs. (Contrary to many reports the name of the organization itself will not change and will still be the Boy Scouts of America.) Conservatives are freaking out.
NRA Spokesperson Dana Loesch took a fatalistic tone:

Anti-gay commentator Michelle Malkin ramped up the fatalism to "RIP."

Far right wing pundit Ben Shapiro called it "deeply sad."

(7,397 posts)A lot of people who are complaining about this are quite delighted to teach their daughters how to shoot a rife, catch a fish, etc., so what's the big deal?

(24,412 posts)It's that the importance of boys (men) is being lowered- in their eyes.

(24,412 posts)boys (men) are special/privileged and don't want to have to share their space with girls!!! If they have to be around girls, why, they would be emasculated! Plus, no "locker room talk"!

(14,490 posts)What about the girls that live in small towns where there are no Girl Scouts, or simply are more comfortable joining in with the boys?
Under those circumstances, would they deny their daughters the right to join Scouts BSA?

(15,381 posts)Is it just a case of the newer models of female conservative pundits are more hateful so she's been abandoned, or is it because she's not blonde?

(15,381 posts)They had reserved one of the reservable areas for an outing, and I was surprised there were a few girls in uniform. I knew it was happening but thought it was a year away for some reason.
Doesn't really make me like the Boy Scouts (or whatever they'll be named) any better. $15 for a normal bag of crappy popcorn versus $4 for a box of cookies? GIRL SCOUTS!!!

(146,288 posts)Or, seriously, just the "Scouts" without any sex or gender designation. That would make the most sense.
