So it's turned out that the news wasn't quite the complete bombshell we initially thought, NBC clarified and said that there was a warrant for records of phone calls made by and to Cohen, but not actually a recording of those phone calls.
Fine. Isn't that still at least partially significant news? Isn't that still something that Mueller's team or whoever is investigating Cohen's activities going to want to look into?
If there are at least some indications that people in the White House--and possibly Donald Trump himself--were recently in communication with Cohen during the lead up to the raid on his office, isn't that a pretty big fucking deal, to quote the former Vice President?
So why the "fake news" crowing from Trump? Why the hair pulling from some on the left who think this was a huge blow to the credibility of the investigation? NBC made a slight error in reporting, quickly corrected it, and the story otherwise still stands as it does.
It's like finding out that what you thought was a $100 bill you found on the floor actually turned out to be a $10 bill. Sure you're a little disappointed it's not $100, but you're still $10 richer.

(44,121 posts)The NBC story, with corrections:
Feds monitored Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's phones
It is not clear how long the monitoring of phone calls has been authorized.

But Trump is surely aware of any steps Cohen took to maintain privacy, and he knows what he and Cohen have talked about. He's worried for a reason which has not yet surfaced.
