to see all the FB post HATE for the last REAL POTUS we had.
I can't figure out if it is because of his color, his political affiliation, his intelligence or all three.
I am in a situation where the use of FB is necessary for my livelihood so, unlike 2 years ago, I can't just "not go there".
I see the pure hatred every day from otherwise smart, nice and normal people. It's only when it comes to politics when this absolute stupidity shows its ugly face.
I don't expect any answers here. To be honest, I am just happy that there is a place like DU where I (we) can vent about stuff like this.
There, the sadness and anger didn't go away, but I feel better now.
Thanks for listening.

I use facebook, purely for contact with family and friends, for family and friend stuff, no overt politics, and I don't see ANY of the political stuff on there folks are talking about.

Facebook gives them a platform. But haters have always been around and probably always will.
Being online gives them anonymity, but it does provide safety in that you don't actually encounter them. I live in small North Texas town and have seen racial and bigoted hatred all my life. I get some comfort knowing that haters hate themselves the most of all and that I do not have to live in their self-imposed hell.
Blabbering idiocy online is better than many other things hatred drives people to do. Still, it sucks that the internet has been infiltrated with this. I believe it is a small minority of people who just want a platform.

(21,106 posts)I will respectfully disagree...when not talking politics, they ARE nice normal people. They are present day Jekylle and Hyde's. They turn into evil, nasty, hateful monsters at the drop of a hat.
Tuning them out is difficult, especially when you are in a meeting and surrounded by the evil undead. Mentally, I just go LALALALALALALLALALLALALALAL and silently grit my teeth.
