Parkland student rips Trump over NRA speech: 'He's a professional liar'

On Saturday, , a survivor of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting slammed President Trump for speaking at the National Rifle Association ... Cameron Kasky, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, made the comments in an appearance on CNN's "New Day."

"He's a professional liar who will say anything to appease whatever crowd he's at," Kasky said. "If he's in front of families he might say something in support of common-sense gun reform, but then when he's at the NRA he'll say something to get a big cheer."

Of course, probably half are naturally conservative, even if most don't realize it yet, raised with the Kool-Aid, but let's hope less affected. Like children of alcoholic parents who had their first sips when they learned to toddle.

18. There are soon-to-be-18-year-olds around the country who are in the same cohort.

These kids were just old enough when Sandy Hook happened to be aware of what was going on and to have the shit scared out of them.

Then this happened, to their peers, again.

I don't believe we can underestimate the size or impact of this movement. These kids are pissed off, and they're not going to let the rest of us forget it.

and aware of what was happening on the right in 2016, but the expected increase in turnout failed. They were both doing what young people have been known for -- voting in lower numbers than other cohorts -- but also affected by the massive demoralization lie campaigns mounted against them.

But that cohort didn't have its own inspiring and focusing victories against the right that this one has.

Student debt shuts young people up faster than anything. Gotta keep that job. Keep a low profile.

9. There's some truth to that unfortunate reality. It's one of the main reasons

affordable college was pulled back since Reagan, and the money aspect of course. Can't have that many college educated young people protesting and calling out lies, corruption and the MIC. Making trouble, no sir! Tie them down and tame them with debt and job insecurity...

This is why we're determined to see that a couple of the younger ones in our family don't carry the college burden. One who's very hard working, proud and ambitious is practically fighting us about helping pay down loans- unbelievable. I remind her that no one in the family in the last 3 generations carried any college debt, no 'indentured/bonded servants' and it's not starting now. End of discussion.

13. That's the modern slavery

And it applies to everyone who can’t make it through the month without their credit cards. If you live pretty well, and can pay your massive monthly bills (mortgage, student loans, household living expenses, city and county taxes, car payments, clothes, food, health insurance, etc.) you’re so deeply in debt that there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

You may live in a nice house, and drive a good car and look like you’re very well off, but the reality is you’re so deeply in debt that your paychecks are eaten up in credit card payments and if you lose your job you’re in immediate danger of losing it all right away.

It’s a fact that the so called Middle Class are unable to save money from their paychecks. Their companies may offer “benefits” which are not pensions but are in stocks and bonds in 401Bs, etc. and the like. Benefits subject to the rise and fall of the Stock Market. That’s an insane way to save for the future and your old age should never be left to chance. And people like George Bush and Paul Ryan want to privatize Social Security so it will also be subject the Wall Street.

It’s slavery.

And that’s just scratching the surface the slavery this country is locked into. The slavery of imposed poverty and how that’s done has hurt people even worse than the things I describe above.

5. These kids won't succeed unless they register and vote. Actually show up and vote.

So if by this fall there has not been a statistically significant increase in the registration of young people to vote along with a significant increase in their actually showing up to vote then they will lose their credibility.
If past behavior is any prediction of future behavior, then it will not be good because young people are the age demographic least likely to vote.

7. I'm going to be optimistic about that

given the visible determination of this set of kids, not just in Parkland but communities throughout the nation. I'm fairly confident that significantly more of them will vote as a consequence of Parkland and their subsequent activism. Certainly more than would otherwise have been the case.

10. There were many voter groups registering young people at the March for Our Lives

event in DC and 60 other cities in March, so that's a big push. The youth of this country and world are most impacted, their lives depend on them being aware and involved. And I have faith that they will rise to the occasion, the huge mess they've been left with. It's shameful.

11. Parents and grandparents can help them succeed

in the meantime by supporting and voting for politicians who will create the policies they are asking for instead of sniping from the siselines.

17. You need to register to vote, but if you don't choose to vote after being registered

what is the point of it?
Time will tell what young people intend to do with their right to vote and we will have a good idea after November's election.

6. We have only one hope, that the Republicans are soundly defeated and Cesar is knocked off his horse.

I begun working with people from my former state to gain support and especially financial support for the young people to make their voices heard. You may ask why my former state and it is because that is where I have any connections through working for the Demcratic candidates on a volunteer basis.
