How The ACORN Scandal Seeded Today's Nightmare Politics

Good read. ACORN’s demise along with discriminatory voter ID laws was the main reason Trump won. This was the Republican plan when Obama won the election in 2008 by wide margins. They knew that the only way for them to win was to play the voter fraud card.

that ACORN could have weathered the storm if Democrats & liberal organizations hadn't turned their backs.

He was on the air constantly (think: Snuggies commercials) doing his wrestling "heel" and hero act.

ACORN was fine with everyone until:
A. They took on payday loan and car title loan operations
And then
B. Realized they could raise revenue registering people to vote.

This goes back to 2002 in Arizona.

a right winger resident of my little tourist trap town stood up at a town council meeting and demanded a law banning ACORN from operating within town limits. Now, this place is as republican as it gets and the closest ACORN office was 100 miles away, but there it was being labeled a dangerous and subversive group. I had volunteered for ACORN when I lived in Denver and thought it was an excellent organization and stood up and said so. The town attorney told the man and the town council they couldn’t ban a group, you know, that pesky constitution.

Unions decimated, ACORN gone. Who will speak for the people?

You'd have thought that the DNC would have hired a Bullshit Detector in Chief to protect our Democratic Representatives against their own self sabotaging gullibility/ cowardice in the face of Repug smear campaigns. Democrats have had ten years to do this.

propaganda destroys the ability of its targets to even recognize, much less fight their enemies.

Here are 20 tactics the Kremlin has been using for years to make war on other nations:

The targeted use of corruption;

Cyber-attacks on the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data held on a target country’s computer systems;

Diplomatic divide-and-rule games designed to weaken multilateral rule-based organizations, and to create the perception of the targeted country’s isolation and indefensibility;

The exploitation of economic, ethnic, linguistic, regional, religious, social and other divisions;

Economic sanctions such as import curbs and restrictions on exports and transit;

Interference with energy supplies, especially natural gas;

Stoking financial panics;

Weaponizing history to besmirch the reputation of a target country and hide Kremlin crimes;

Covert information operations such as the hacking and leaking attacks seen in the U.S. and

French presidential elections;

Abuse of the international legal system, such as issuing Interpol Red Notices to critics, mounting libel actions and vexatious lawsuits;

Military bluffing and saber-rattling; irregular and regular warfare;

The use of organized crime networks to demoralize decision-makers and public opinion;

Overt and covert payments to buy influence in political parties, think tanks, media outlets and academic institutions;

Physical intimidation of opponents and critics;

Psychological warfare on an individual and collective basis;

The exploitation of religious sentiment, especially among Orthodox believers;

Physical sabotage of critical infrastructure;

Subversion of social norms, public confidence and state institutions; and

Support for violent anti-social behavior.

Russian and our domestic right-wing enemies have personality profiles on probably everyone who's signed up on a political forum now, you know, and are able to use social media to target their messages to our weaknesses. I don't get the "everything our enemies do is really the Democrats' fault, so why bother voting" ones, btw. I wish the demoralized ones could see these responses to this article about right-wing evil through my eyes.

As for this article, the "seeding" began back in the late 1960s/early 1970s and has been growing toxic, anti-Democrat weeds every year since. James O'Keefe and the take-down of ACORN was funded by the same people who are paying to corrupt our will to resist today.

Everyone always sees that clip of him telling that woman at his rally who called Obama a Muslim that "no, ma'am," he's "a good family man."

But this article reminded me about McCain's ugly lie about ACORN during the final presidential debate of 2008: “We need to know the full extent of Senator Obama’s relationship with ACORN, who is now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy."

I wonder if he expresses any regret for that in his new book...

That people think of the likes of McCain and Collins as "moderates" is a strong statement as to just how crazy the Republican Party has become. Because the fact of the matter is those "moderates" support and promote horrific policies.

No ma’am, he’s not a Muslim, he’s a good family man.. and there’s Sarah.

Sorry, I don’t hate the man and remember a couple of times he was good, but he was no friend of us commoners.
