Kellyanne Swipes at Giuliani Over Claims About Stormy Payment: ‘I Don’t Know Why Anyone Would Say That’

Margaret Brennan kicked off her interview with White House counselor Kellyanne Conway with a simple question that no one from the administration seems to be able to answer: why is Rudy Giuliani going on television?

“Why has the president authorized him to speak like this?” Brennan asked Conway.

“Well the president sent me here today,” Conway replied. She continued by defending Trump and Giuliani’s apparently incongruous statements regarding when the president found out about his personal lawyer’s payment to Stormy Daniels to silence her about an alleged affair with the president.

“In an interview last night on Fox News, Rudy Giuliani said that this payment to Stormy Daniels was in fact a campaign expenditure,” Brennan asked. “You ran the campaign, is that what you would characterize it as?”

“I don’t know why anyone would say that,” Conway said. “I would not characterize it that way. The president himself characterized it as not a campaign expenditure. All I can tell is that, as the campaign manager for the winning part of the campaign, this never crossed my desk,” she added.

Later in the interview, Brennan asked Conway why Giuliani was dishing on the release of U.S. prisoners from North Korea despite having no idea whether they would be released. Conway said Giuliani was not authorized to talk about that issue.
