Trump has 2 overwhelming reasons to scuttle the Iran deal

1) Obama did it
2) Destroying it benefits Russia

If it were one or the other, he might be conflicted or confused. As it is, both aspects align and there is no confusion.

The only way to nudge his thinking would be to make his personal monetary interest outweigh both his devotion to Putin/Russia AND his loathing for Obama, which seems implausible...

It shows the world that the US can't be trusted when it makes agreements with other nations. There are five other countries in the Iran deal, including Russia, but we would be alone in breaking it.

It could be that if the US pulls out, they benefit because many European companies (and of course all US companies) will pull out of business deals - opening the chance for Russia.

However, if possible gain pales to the potential negative. Look at a map. Russia shares a huge border with Iran. It is quite likely that no deal means the US (or Israel) will use military force against Iran. Russia has allied with Iran in the middle east, but even without this, Russia would be harmed by a war in a neighboring country.

Not to mention, if you have the US, Saudi Arabia and Israel focussed on fighting Iran, what happens with the radical SUNNI jihadis (such as ISIS). Some of those jihadis have ethnic roots in areas like Chechnya.

Russia was helpful in getting the JCPOA - and that was not because Lovrov liked John Kerry or Javad Jarif. Like all diplomats, he pushed for things that were in his country's interest.

Scuttling the deal would increase the possibility of Iran pursuing nuclear weapons.

I see two possible reasons:

1) Bibi wants to see the restoration of crippling sanctions on Iran.

2) If Iran pursues nukes, Bibi likes the prospect of the US bombing Iran in a war that hampers Iran's ability to exert influence in the region.
