...and began speaking up. The Republic is in danger and there's a madman at the controls. The Democrats need a strong, eloquent, but blunt when needed, leader to start countering Trump. Obama isn't running for any office, AFAIK.
Maybe Obama doesn't WANT to step up. I could relate to that. Maybe he's afraid? Understandable, as the Trump hounds will dog him. Maybe he's waiting for a more-appropriate time?
And screw that old "tradition" of past presidents not criticizing current presidents. This is the Trump era. Previous conventions do not apply

(5,210 posts)And pretty damn petty to boot, to sacrifice the country for his hurt feelings.
I have never been a huge Obama fan, but I have a MUCH higher regard for him than that.

(7,872 posts)Idk maybe they think theyre atill sending a message .
when he was in a position to do something good what did we do ?... we gave him a republican congress that in effect ended his presidency . And now that gop is ending/trying to end everything he did ... now he's being called upon to do for us what we keep failing to do for ourselves .
People want to fk around with their vote thinking ..... onever mind . what's the point anyway....

(5,210 posts)I said your hypothesis was incomprehensible, given the man you're talking about, because it would mean he WOULD BE SACRIFICING the country if he doesn't step forward to say something.
And, btw, that's about all he can do: SAY something. So no one's "calling o him to do for us what we keep failing to do for ourselves."
It's high time to let go of your anger and resentment over the 2016 election and move forward: you can't even see straight any more (assuming you once could).

(5,210 posts)Good grief, get a hold of yourself.
Or don't.
You are jumping to all sorts of conclusions, and ---
it's a waste of my time and energy to further engage. But trust me: your version of reality isn't rational.

(58,785 posts)President Obama is a major power center still, you know. He consults with many on what actions he should be taking behind the scenes and on the national and world states. Imagining they know less than us about what and when those actions should be would be a profound display of what it means to "not know what it is to know something."
Itm, Obama has been involved all along with a number of operations, including "Protect Democracy," created by a bunch of attorneys from his administration to battle illegal actions by Trump's administration. Keeps them very busy. They accept donations and send out email updates to keep people informed about threats and actions.
Our democracy is facing threats we havent seen in generations. Every day, were seeing new attacks, from at home and abroad, on our right to free, fair, and fully informed self-government. But together, armed with our Constitution and the rule of law, we can fight back and protect our democracy from those who would do it harm.

(14,249 posts)His legacy is engraved in granite and written in the stars. None of these petty, silly little people can touch it - which is why theyre so freaked out.
As I said, he has said and done everything he needs to do and left it all on the field. He doesnzt have to a damned thing now unless HE feels like it.
Maube its time for some other people to step up for a change. I can think of one or two current politicians with big followings who could use their bully pulpits to defend President Obamas legacy. Where are they? Perhaps you should tell THEM to stand up and say something...

But, as always, there's people at DU who are sure he is doing nothing for them because they do not get a personal phone call from him every day.
Don't worry -- you have company.
