So, how many little Laundromat LLCs did Cohen have set up?

Just that one? I'm guessing not. If you have tons and tons of money that needs laundering, you're going to need lots of washing machines. Setting up an LLC is no big deal, so, let's hunt for others set up by Cohen or by other LLCs he had. A broader search would probably turn up many more millions of sparkling clean money that moved from one place to another.

Do tell, Mr. Cohen. It'll go much easier on you if you just 'fess up, you know...

I'd get a tan, but my doctor says to stay out of the sun unless I'm protected by a hat or SPF 50 sun screen.

8. You beat me to it. I was going to ask how many LLCs did the bagman create?

You're right, they needed to make the amounts more manageable. Maybe one for the congress, one for faux gnus, one for...ad infinitum. Maybe they have tell-tale titles so their minds can keep them straight.

16. Well, most people use them as a way to do business.

Like a corporation, they help keep your personal wealth safe in case of lawsuits.

However, they're very useful if you want to move money from one entity to another to remove information about its origins. If you have several LLCs, you can shuffle money around and completely disguise it over time.

I'm not a lawyer or an accountant, but the most recent article I had read on this suggested that they were a commonplace way of doing business. Reading the comments here, though, it seems like the mere existence of the LLC suggests some nefarious intent. I was concerned that what I had read had been perhaps misleading.
