Siyonbola told the Yale Daily News that the May 8 incident wasnt her first run-in with Braasch. In February she invited a group of graduate students to her dorm for a meeting in the common room. Jean-Louis Reneson, a black grad student, told the Daily News that he got lost in the building when he arrived and was physically blocked from entering the common room by Braasch after he asked her for directions. Reneson and Siyonbola filed a complaint about that incident with Yales Associate Dean for Graduate Student Development and Diversity Michelle Nearon. The Daily News obtained a copy of that complaint.
Reneson said Braasch did not appear to think he was a Yale student and accused him of being an intruder. Feeling ignored, I went down to the base of the twelfth floor and eleventh floor and turned my back, but she continued to verbally assault me from the twelfth floor claiming that I didnt belong here and I was making her uncomfortable, Reneson told the newspaper. He said Braasch left and Reneson went to the meeting, but four officers soon showed up to investigate a suspicious character. They quickly established Reneson was a student invited to the building by Siyonbola and left, the newspaper reports.

(31,879 posts)I don't know what happened the last week or so with the 'w' word (other than I've trashed it) but I get the feeling we aren't allowed to use that word anymore.
But - You aren't wrong!

(12,265 posts)I think it is best I missed it. In this case, no question this woman is a raving racist. I don't care what degree she has or what her background is. Students sleep in libraries, on benches everywhere this time of year. Especially at a school like Yale with all of the pressure to perform.
Thanks for saying I'm not wrong.
Me.

(15,682 posts)so I guess I must have missed something. I feel stupid asking but I honestly don't know. What's the "w" word.

(31,261 posts)Lot of debate on it. I think that it is a stupid word, others firmly disagree. I really don't search around DU much, I don't know whether you can search by keywords. There were a lot of posts on that word and it's meaning or status as a race based word.

During her doctoral studies, Sarah will continue her present work in the philosophical foundations of law to attack at the root the problem of the subhuman legal status of women. She aspires to a lifelong career as a legal philosopher and womens rights advocate. She has recently been invited to present at the 9th International Symposium on Cognition, Logic, and Communication at the University of Latvia in Riga.
it's so fucking disheartening that with all that the woman is a diehard racist. how can you be so progressive with respect to womens rights and yet treat people this way because they're black??

(3,630 posts)Sarah is a woman. Women are her "tribe." She will fight for her tribe, and has learned to do so eloquently. But black people -- I suspect particularly black men -- are "other." She has an atavistic need to drive them out of her vicinity. That she doesn't see the conflict in these two drives is, unfortunately, a common human failing.

(8,311 posts)... who tried to suggest white women deserved voting rights before black people.
I'm sure there are many today who can't easily understand that we have privilege just because we're female, if we're also white. In fact, we have an extremely high level of privilege when it comes to "feeling uncomfortable" with anyone, but especially a black male, and having people run to protect us.
We have to work together, not against each other. And too many people get short-sighted and don't see that.

But that doesn't say much for her sense of security in a locked dorm.

(28,811 posts)she made the calls on 2 people who had every right to be where they were and it is no coincidence that both people are black. I'd like to see some sign from her that she's taken a look at herself and recognized her racism and grew from the experience.
