Psst. Trump doesn't need to be invoked in every discussion.

I know, I know, it's omnipresent in our dark timeline that we all live in.

But I've had to say this to my elderly mother that hates him with a passion; you don't need to invoke his name with every kind of news item there is.

A kid saves an elderly woman? Yeah, Trump won't mention him!

No kidding.

But why drag him into something where he doesn't need to be?

We're letting him occupy too much of our headspace and it's damaging our view of the actual good that happens in the world and in discussions where things must take place that doesn't involve him anyway.

I am sick of hearing about him and his tweets especially. Trump fatigue

Fact is he loves the attention and the chaos.

But I hate it when he ends up being inserted into discussions where there's no reason for it at all.

"Did you see how nice that new construction down the road is going?"

"Yeah, but you know Trump would hate that!"

It's like, dude, we're talking A or B or C and you're bringing in Z in terms of what's related.

I had that with my father before I passed, he had to make everything about Obama being the evil liberal.

We tend to give him far more attention than he deserves and I think that is pretty much the way he likes it. He cannot stand it if no one is talking about him. I've never seen such an ego in one person before.

Like I said in the OP, we had a post here about a college kid rescuing a woman from a fire in her home. Practically the first response was "I bet Trump won't say anything about it!"

It's like, of course not. It's a local news story. But it speaks to the headspace that Trump is occupying in our heads in that we make ~everything~ about him.

I can see that and like a toddler, he acts out and says outrageous things to keep the limelight on him at all times, he doesn't care if the attention is positive or negative, as long as it is about him. This is pretty much the way he has been all his adult life, so we shouldn't be surprised. It is just we aren't used to someone like that in high office, and we are not used to such behavior being tolerated, even applauded.

If he cannot get attention for doing and saying the right thing, he will do whatever it takes to keep the conversation about Trump 24/7. His need for attention is insatiable.

...but we often avoid political discussions because some days you just don’t want to hear another red-faced rant, even if you agree with the substance.

Apparently the MAGA people don’t feel the same way.

and it segues suddenly into the "Imagine what trump would think of that!"

It's like whiplash of conversation.

I'm talking in the smaller moments where it's utterly unrelated. That's what's damaging to the individual psyche.

Do you not think there is damage being done to our society at large from this administration? I think what you describe with your Mom is a small example of that problem...

I thought I was merely acknowledging the problem on a larger scale.
