it'll be for political purposes -- to take a major issue away from Democrats with the midterms coming up fast. And then after keeping power feeding their base by betraying any agreement.

The empowering victory these students need is huge national coverage of Republicans with callous egg all over their faces but refusing to act. The kind of growing of outrage that can lead to strong gun control laws, not pretend fixes.

The Republican base is very pro-gun, pro-NRA. Passing substantive gun control legislation would severely depress Republican turnout in November.

Imagine how you'd feel about voting for Democratic senators and congressmen if every one of them voted to repeal Obamacare. It would be a complete wipeout. That's what Republicans are facing if they pass substantive gun control.

The crazies would have to be tossed some fear or outrage, easy enough, they're all excited about the Deep State spying on Trump right now. But there is real support on the less-crazy right for gun control. They know letting troubled people buy automatic weapons is insane and it's getting to them.

Reportedly, Republican turnout hasn't actually been that bad so far (darn!), but Democrats have picked up red-leaning swing districts anyway. They're desperate to stop that. And remember, Florida leaders did give some genuine although minor, and fake (like gunstocks), concessions after the last deaths there. The demand on the right, not the left, was that strong.


The one thing I'm sure of that we don't want the outrage over Repub's refusal to do gun control to just go away before November and be replaced with a renewed confidence in the Repub leadership. Not if we want real gun control or a majority in the senate and many state legislatures.

I will say it again. Politicians ignore/mock/lie about these students at their own peril.

Many high school seniors are able to vote in the midterms. Todays juniors, seniors, and some sophomores will be able to vote in the next presidential election. They are sick of getting killed in math class.
