Today, about an hour north of Columbine...

In Weld County CO, kids don't have to wait for a gunman to show up at school. The state will just wait for them to get fracked to death.

The picture is from the Facebook page of a group dedicated to fighting against a multi-well fracking site going in next to a school. Can't give you a link since the page has gone private, thanks to trolling by those who think fracking is a wonderful thing.

The kids in the foreground are playing in the school yard. In the background, the first of many frack rigs that will operate on the site. The brown thing is a fabric barrier erected to cut down on noise, it will do nothing to mitigate the emission of toxins into the air, toxins that are especially harmful to kids' growing bodies. The drilling company put up that barrier out of "concern" for the children, and promised that they'd do 80% of the noisiest work outside of school hours (never mind that the noise is way down the list of neighborhood and parents' worries).

Nationally, the NRA decides the worth of children's lives. Here in Weld County, it's the frackers who make that determination.

I join those who ask, "When will our children matter?"

Is just about the most anti-child country on Earth. Many born into poverty, Many die before their 1st birthday, in some states equivalent to a third world country. Many going to sub standard schools with buildings that are falling apart and decade old textbooks. Many living in unsafe neighborhoods.
Many going hungry. Way too many accidental gun deaths when a child finds a loaded weapon in the home. . Way too many the victims of parental drug abuse. And Republicans want to strangle availability of food aid, health care, and decent public schools. Their indifference and cruelty is astounding. I can't wait until this hellish nightmare is over, but unfortunately it won't come soon enough to save so many precious young lives.
