Texas Democrats Look to Single-Payer In House Races

https://politicalwire.com/2018/05/19/texas-democrats-look-to-single-payer-in-house-races/

"SNIP.........

“Democrats hoping to wrest congressional seats away from diehard repeal-and-replace Republicans are campaigning on an unlikely issue for Texas — single-payer health care,” Politico reports.

“Across the country, many Democrats are trying to minimize internal battles on health care. But Democrats in this deep red state have also watched closely races where single-payer advocates have upset centrist primary opponents. And some believe that moving left on health care will mobilize new voters in primaries —and offer a shot at winning come November.”

Running as Republican Lite hasn't charmed the voters. Might as well lose (if they lose) as a real Democrat. Maybe Democratic principles are more popular than we think?

won't have that for a while. It would be better to run on the ACA and a public option. What happens if these candidates are elected and can't deliver on their promises? We could be years away from 60 votes...

It can be passed using reconciliation, which only requires a simple majority

And so did the GOP attempted repeal used reconciliation

That's what allowed McCain's thumbs down to kill it, because using reconciliation they only needed 50 votes, not 60

the ACA didn't put everyone in America on single payer...it targeted those without insurance...way less costly...and doable in reconciliation although it led to problems in the final ACA bill. The Medicare for all bill would put everyone on medicare and let me tell you...too many get insurance through work for it to pass even with 60 votes in the Senate...and God knows how many jobs would be lost in the insurance sector ...not to mention the tax increases required...it sounds great but the logistics are very difficult...a public option and gradual movement towards universal coverage would work...but a stand alone Medicare for all bill likely wouldn't pass and you certainly couldn't do it in reconciliation.

Other places in the country will have to use other weapons. Smart move in TX. This selection of weapons based on locale will be the norm for November.
