Wouldn't that mean that republicans should be fighting to renew it instead of blocking any attempt to renew it, if they were truly concerned about the carnage being brought into our schools, churches, movie theater, concerts, etc.

The problem now is after over a decade of inaction there at far too many of these weapons out there. It will take years and years for any new legislation to have an immediate impact.
