(51,590 posts)I heard that the kids screwed everything up at the rehearsals. It took countless times and the kids couldn't get is right and everyone was exasperated. As a teacher I am surprised they weren't better behaved since they have so many adults around to control them.
Prince Phillip told the photographer to get it completed in 25 minutes due to his health. That is not an easy job...just shows how good the photographer is.
I think it was nice that the flowers were given to the various charities that the couple support. The wedding bouquet was placed on a grave.

You know, this event brought a lot of joy to a lot of people -- many of them right here. It was an inspirational and aspirational event whose ramifications, given the biracial bride and the marvelously inclusive elements in the event because of her, will be felt for generations to come. It was transformational.
So I think it's fine for you to have your disdain for all of it, but don't imagine your view is necessarily the right one -- except, of course, for you.

I was giving a specific example of that attitude. Jackson cared about the suffering of the poor and was protesting the money spent on the moon landing. Yet, when he saw the liftoff, he enjoyed it for its own sake.

Being human with this ability to do things that are not in our best interests is what complicates life.
Solving the problems you list would add new problems which would require other solutions. I think we're on a never-ending moebius strip that will introduce blocks to be overcome, perhaps multiple times.

(12,375 posts)phone call) was one of the most romantic expressions of love of all time. "I would like to be reincarnated as your tampon." Now, that's love.
Because of that, I like Charles almost as much as I like Philip.
But to the point, the hat is assholic.
calimary
(81,261 posts)It hasn't been easy for Charles. And yeah, Camilla and all that.
But shit, guys - he loved HER first. He loved her pretty much ONLY. I don't know why. And I don't have to know why. And neither do the rest of us. He bowed to duty to queen and country - in marrying a suitable virgin (yes, even as recently as them, in the 1980s forcryingoutloud), the betrothed of the royal groom, particularly one who was next in line to the throne, had to be a virgin. The latest two duchesses, Kate and now Meghan, are only the first young wives who did NOT have that restriction hanging over their heads. I think it had something to do with an Old World mentality that the bride of the future king couldn't have been touched by another man. It's only in the last decade that such an old saw finally gave way.
And, what makes me smile is the idea that that, for all that rigid tradition and duty and obligation to the monarchy and the grooming for that big job that poor Charles had to deal with from childhood, he could finally marry for love, too. Granted it was a bumpy road to reach that change. Anybody ever see him as a child, brought to the train station to watch his mother ride away toward her royal duties that took her to another continent, for weeks at a time? I've seen some of those old film strips, and they almost make me cry. He was something like seven or eight years old, left behind, looking so sad and forlorn, so alone, and probably knowing he's supposed to be big and strong and not show emotion. How anybody now can begrudge him happiness with the one HE loves, is beyond me. But he finally got there, too. For whatever it's worth, it's Camilla he always loved. So seems to me it's Camilla with whom he should end up. His boys both were able to marry for love, and to feel that simple, basic, genuine happiness that all the rest of us take for granted. So why can't he, at last, be genuinely happy, as well?

I was never a Royal Family fan but when Diana married Prince Phillip, I became a fan and followed her on media and was so sad when she died in that car crash in Paris. Since then, I always wanted to know how her two sons were doing. Harry was a maverick for a while, but he settled down. And I admire him for following in his mom's footsteps and marrying the woman he fell in love with. I know they will make a difference in the Monarchy and I feel the Queen knows that change is coming.
