Using unapproved government systems at risk of foreign intrusion to discuss classified materials requires a counterintelligence and then criminal investigations, right? Comey determined that Clintons actions were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information. President Trump, first as a candidate and now as president, has said that warranted prosecution, conviction and imprisonment.
Well, it turns out that Trump has done something extremely careless, although we do not know yet whether very sensitive, highly classified information was conveyed. Politico reports:
President Donald Trump uses a White House cellphone that isnt equipped with sophisticated security features designed to shield his communications, according to two senior administration officials a departure from the practice of his predecessors that potentially exposes him to hacking or surveillance. . . .
The president uses at least two iPhones, according to one of the officials. The phones one capable only of making calls, the other equipped only with the Twitter app and preloaded with a handful of news sites are issued by White House Information Technology and the White House Communications Agency, an office staffed by military personnel that oversees White House telecommunications.
Trump has created two potential security risks. First, The president has gone as long as five months without having the phone checked by security experts. It is unclear how often Trumps call-capable phones, which are essentially used as burner phones, are swapped out. Second, Trumps call-capable cellphone has a camera and microphone, unlike the White House-issued cellphones used by [President Barack] Obama. Keeping those components creates a risk that hackers could use them to access the phone and monitor the presidents movements. The kicker, according to Politicos sources: The president said that it was too inconvenient to swap out his phones. Yes, the very same excuse that Clinton used for her home server is now Trumps excuse.

(6,974 posts)But we know that won't happen. Thuglicans control the CON-gress.
And even if Dems do wrestle control of the Congress back and Fatso's still using his cell phone, they won't investigate, even though it IS a security issue. Yeah, let me stop before I say something that'll get my post removed or reported

(11,885 posts)Unsecured means they can be listened in on , like using unsecured email systems, and after all the whining he did now he ignores security and does this. This is just a separate investigation that the Democrats will have to start when we take the House back.

(32,634 posts)Before Hope Hicks left the White House, she did all the emailing (sending and receiving) for Cheeto because he needed to be able to say "I never saw that email" when it was convenient. Now that she's gone, I doubt very much of Cheeto has changed his habits, he probably has somebody different doing the emailing chores.
The private cellphone allows him to send and receive calls that won't be logged on the White House daily log, like the office phone calls would be. And of course the never-ending tweets.

(6,143 posts)That all the Comey investigation found was a total of 3 emails that were not marked classified in the headers and just had a (c) which is the lowest level of classification defined as 'confidential' which is mainly used for private contact information.
