A corporation is a person, and using its money to bribe politicians is free speech protected under The First Amendment.
But a black football player taking a knee to speak out against black children being murdered, that is not protected under The First Amendment.
Seig Heil!

(11,746 posts)I just finished Amanda Carpenter's Gaslighting America. She leaves some things to be desired but she sets out the gaslighting tactic as well as I have seen it set out. She cites four stages and concludes that the way to combat it is to insist on facts and not move off that insistence.
If you have a better way please let me know.
Of course we have to vote. What have I been saying here for the past year and a half?

(7,394 posts)It doesn't look much like America right now.
But this is not the way it's going to be. And no one is going to lie down for this.
I insist we exact our eventual revenge by educating their children about civics and social responsibility.

What a great idea! There are children of the evangelical conservatives in my family who do not embrace their parents political views. I have hope that this will continue as our kids promote taking a larger part in putting political pressure on Congress to do their job. We all need to do/ continue to do this.

(61,695 posts)What if the boycott is construed to be for "taking a knee" vs supporting their right to protest?
stuffmatters
(2,574 posts)right to both collective bargaining and free speech. They are protesting police violence and institutional injustice against people of color. This is a protest against racism by "taking a knee"; a public boycott supports this action. However Fox News, Trump et alios want to misrepresent this by spewing "fake patriotism" (as Steve Kerr called it) should not deter a public boycott that supports both the players and our Constitution. We live in a world where national boycott against abuse by the powerful appears to be one of our few avenues left to confront that abuse.
I think NFL Players have salary contracts. Their salary not determined by temporary attendance or tv ratings drop.(i.e. a boycott) However the Owners' bottom line would be very much effected from attendance, viewership to selling food & branded sales. That's my bead on it.

Somewhere in that site is this quote:
Slavery is the fiction that people are property;
corporate personhood is the fiction that corporations are people.
Anyway, lots of good stuff at that site.
I will check it out.
