Just as they've used abortion, same sex marriage, and any number of social concerns to agitate their voters, this time around their using the gas tax to get out the vote. It'll work, too, as chintzy Republican voters will turn out to save themselves a dime but also vote for anything with an (R).

If there's any good news out of this it's that the Republicans are unable to use tried-and-true social issues to energize their base in California, but instead are reduced to pushing money issues alone.

2. Based on the polls so far,

there's a good chance the GOP won't have a Gov candidate on the ballot in the general election. Newsom is #1 and Villaraigosa is #2 last I saw.
