ICE separates asylum-seekers and their children. Now 1475 of 7000 can't be located.

It's late Friday on a three day weekend. My search skills on this site are not spectacular, but I've turned up nothing here on this story recently. I've been reading about the shameful practice ICE uses for a day or two and feel the story has surfaced here. Chris Hayes covered it earlier this evening. It is profoundly disturbing, a stain on America.

I bring it up because it cannot be forgotten in the daily tidal wave of awful news. As a group, we must commit to contact our elected representatives about it. We must pressure them to do everything in their power to urge ICE and this corrupt administration to put an end to separation of parents and children seeking asylum. I feel like DU, where so many of us care so deeply about the mess we are in, should keep the story in the forefront until it catches fire and the message gets through.

3. I know its complicated but these are actually two different groups of people

1) Separating mothers and children is a new policy meant to create a frightening experience to discourage people from coming

2) The 1500 "missing" children are children who arrived as "unaccompanied minors" and who, in 90% of the cases were released to family members who continue to care for them. While they almost all showed up for their promised court date under Obama they are now driven underground because their relatives have lost their temporary protective status (TPS) which President Obama created by Executive Order and Trump has now terminated.
