Roseanne literally just said that Valerie Jarrett, who was Senior Advisor to President Obama, is like the Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes having a baby.
This is the gross normalization of bigotry in America.

(988 posts)The GOP gets away with Nasty and lying.. The democrats sit idle like a fat sticky gummi bear, not doing anything and not capable of doing anything. No message from the DNC to counter. Fake is taking on truth and in some corners winning. Religion is on the side of Fake. Religion, Fake, GOP also have the guns. The media loves to cover fake over truth since it has trumps approval.
I guess the voters will have to decide on fake or truth.

She's an intimate friend of the Obama family.
So much ugliness from Roseanne.

(4,341 posts)And I am not referring at her appearance, I could not care less about that, but her show has always pandered to ugly America, her jokes have always been trash, even the way she talks is careless and trashy. Remember her rendition of the National Anthem? That is what she is, why people watched and still watch her comeback show I cannot understand, she perpetuates the "dumbing down of America" and people buy it with open arms.

I will not watch any @ABCNetwork programming until they do the right thing and cancel Roseanne's show. Enough.

(959 posts)Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, etc. justify this. All supposedly liberal people, but willing to subsidize this horrible person and her TV mess. I can have no respect for anyone affiliated with Barr.

(85,996 posts)...I will, with predictability, put myself in between open racism, sexism, homophobic attacks at work, and throw down as if I'm the one affected - especially when it appears there's not going to be a defense from the target.
I also can be counted on to speak up and out when the target of the abuse is not present at the time, and also against any language in an open setting which could be overheard and construed as abusive or derogatory toward my co-workers.

Which is it?
Either way it's disgustingly racist and I don't know which is worsethat ABC allowed such racist dialogue to be green-lighted or that their re-ignited "star" feels free enough with her bigotry to blurt out such racist claptrap in public.

(5,810 posts)You always have a moment to reconsider before you hit Send or Post. And you should do that when commenting anywhere. Having to apologize after the fact is risky since some of the offended will never see the apology. And like unringing the bell, you have to realize that you cant take back your words, just try to explain and apologize as best you can. But your words are still out there to haunt you.
Weve known for a long time that Roseanne is a very vocal, outspoken person, with not much of a filter to offer restraint on her more controversial comments. She has been out of the limelight for quite a while and only recently re-emerged to prominence due to the 2018 version of her old TV show. With comments like that, she may find herself relegated to the ashcan of former stars, which is probably right where she belongs.
bigtree
(85,996 posts)...I would never consider saying anything like this, anywhere.
Knowing the history behind such a comment, as I'm quite sure she does - knowing her own history of very sincerely delivered bigotry - her apology strains credulity.
Her comment is more hateful, of course, than controversial.

(4,032 posts)Roseanne Barr; One stupid person continuing the stupid dialogue to more stupid people. What the hell has happened to this country? This is what Republicans have fostered. To call them leaders in any sense of the word is an insult to leadership. Their legacy so far has been a disgrace to all that America stands for. They pass destructive, not productive legislation. Anybody with an iota of common sense can see plainly that their goal is the destruction of democracy for the promotion of fascism, oligarchy, anarchy, party and money, yet the minority of voters in this country, so blinded by partisanship, are too frickin stupid to see what is happening right before our eyes.
Every day I wake up and hope like hell that there are people of means, whether political, financial, or subversive that can stop these Nazi Republicans and their stupid followers from claiming America as theirs, and theirs only. Thousands have sacrificed their lives to keep America safe and free ,yet we still have Republicans hell bent on our destruction.
I think it stinks and Im mad as hell.

(3,922 posts)I totally agree that this deplorable behavior should not and can not be ignored nor accepted.
America has to wake up - the people who are fostering this shameful behavior are not patriots and are only damaging the country.
An easy first step would be firing, and marginalizing Barr.
RockRaven
(14,966 posts)shame on them for participating in giving her another turn in the spotlight. They chose to work on a garbage project with a garbage person. The stench will cling to them -- as it should!

(25,111 posts)out weighs love thy neighbor . . . logic.
When you have a government and supporters of the government who thrives on total hate to keep in power, a government and a major political party who doesn't give a rats ass about the country nor her people, and pursues chaos while making profits then it time to vote them out and as the RWers always say . . . "take our country back".
ABC knew Rosanne is a racist, hate everything about truth and facts, and is one who would love to see this country go into total destruction, but hey, it's about the money.
